hey everyone :-)
i've been an athiest/agnostic for most of my life (although i was raised catholic). i'm 19 now and i've taken some philosophy courses, in particular eastern philosophy. i'm starting to get more interested in spirituality, i've been reading the tao of physics, and i've read several classic eastern works, such as teachings of the compassionate buddha and the tao de ching. i'm kinda starting to get into this whole sprituality thing :-P and i've even started doing some meditation. i'm just wondering if any of you have recommendations for me of books i could read to satisfy my blossoming interest. what were some of the first books you read when you first started becoming spiritual?
i would appriciate any feedback!

thank you so much! :-D

p.s. also, does anyone know of any good websites with informations or message boards that might be of interest?

The writings of Thich Nhat Hahn are simple and truthful.

Hello. :) Welcome!

If you click on my name to see my profile, you will find a link to my web site. One of the pages on it has a list of spiritually oriented books I have found meaningful in my spiritual journey.

If you're interested in Zen Buddhism, "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" by Shunryu Suziki, is a classic. Other books by Joko Beck, also. Other spiritual books such as "The Four Agreements" by Ruiz, and the "Celestine Prophecy" series by Redfield are also good. I have a whole list posted! LOL! :D

Wishing you many blessings on your journey of the Spirit.

Gypsy

Gypsy, I am so glad I ran across this post. I went to your website, which is really grand, and it took me to the Celestine Prophecy. I am inspired to read these books, have always wanted to and now I definately will. The new movie coming out looks so good. Thank you for sharing all of your happiness and spirituality with us.

My spirituality has been, so far, along the lines of reading John Edward, James Van Praagh, and others who are psychic mediums and have so much to teach us about the afterlife and this life, and our lives before. Brian Weiss has been a fascinating read about past lives. My journey has only begun also, I am looking forward to delving into teachings of Buddha and more.

" return to love" by Marianne williamson got me into A course of miracles, a big step in changing thinking. Of course the God books, by Neal donald walsh.

Your mention of brian weiss brought me to a memory. after my husband died, 13 years ago, my friend brought me "many lives many masters" perfect for me at that time. It was so helpful. Exactly a year later on the anniversary of his death, Brian was to be in Boston. I went and had a chance to talk to him about my experience with his book. The audience clapped, not because i was so great but because people identified with me. what a treat. Love, leila
