At a loss...

Sometimes I am at a loss as to what this board needs.  Some weeks it fluorishes all on its own, and others, like now, it stagnates and day after day goes by with very little interaction.  I have tried several approaches that work well on other boards, but nothing seems to fly on this board.  It's like throwing a party and nobody comes.

What would you like to see different on this board?  What would you like to talk about?  I value your input, and I'm certain the moderators do, too, so speak up!

If you are not comfortable posting a public reply, my profile e-mail is always working.

When people post a message or when people read anothers posted message I have not been using the send to a friend, but did today . does this invite others to Village forums. If so this should be encouraged , in fact one posted and I had to procure new ink for printer to save and use the valuable comparrisons some one wrote pages. or even forward them by the invitation to send to a friend. Perhaps you could compaose a message and post it telling about the forum and ask others to forward it to several of their friends. or to people they know about who may be interesed ..some day would like to phone and hear your voice.

Thank you for caring so much! :)

I think that support boards have an ebb and flow all to themselves. Some posters stick around while others come as needed for support, then are gone again. And we all have our various time schedules for being on-line. And our lives change.

I see this ebb and flow on many boards here on iV, even on debate boards where people like to come to argue their views. :D I have been coming here for some years, and there have been many changes in that time, and iV has grown and changed in many ways.

There always seems to be a small handful of people who stick around, come often, form a connection, maybe only 5 or 6 people. The rest only come out of lurkedom occasionally or come very sporadically. I think it's more about the posters than about any of the boards, or what's offered on them. It's about posters' needs, spiritual in this case.

I think it takes a sort of commitment, a loose one, by posters who come and respond or post threads about their journeys, spiritual, in our case. I don't see as much of that nowadays. Perhaps iV offers too many choices, splits hairs or subjects too finely? I don't know.

I know and feel your concern and frustration. I don't have any solutions, really, but to let the Spirit work. This is a wonderful place, you know. ;)) A safe space to come for many of us who have a more individualized way of living in Spirit. A place to search, comment, share our journeys. I see it as a support board for people who walk outside the beaten path of established religions more, or want to explore Spirit more broadly than solely within a specific religion or denomination of a religion, and talk with people of different faiths and learn about them.. This is very different than boards specifically labeled for a particular religion. KWIM?

What about posting a link, say, to the Religious Tolerance web site, or Beliefnet, about a specific religion, periodically (weekly, monthly)? Discuss similarities we may see, to our own paths, what's different, gaining an understanding, a bit, of other paths? Discuss any similarities we may see to our own beliefs? Not to debate, no way. Just learn and perhaps also share spiritual tools we use? Where we learned them? How they fit into our path? Did we adapt them in any way?

Bottom line, we can't be all things to all people. On a site like this, there will always be comings and goings. :P

Perhaps those of us who keep coming back here could just occasionally share our journeys as they evolve? Questions or choices we have to make in our lives, the day to day challenges of living spiritually as our prime focus, or ideas that come up for us? No matter how minute we may think they are?

I hesitate to suggest of any techniques to attract people... It isn't about "salesmanship" or "competition" with other boards. It's not a "numbers game" (although I know iV eliminates boards on this criteria alone, periodically -- I hope they are not threatening that here for this board???). I think when it comes to spiritual matters, people are on their own pace, sometimes at breakneck speed and desire of seeking. Sometimes settling in, absorbing. Sometimes just trying to figure out the questions. I'll try to share bits & pieces of thoughts that come up for me. ;) Perhaps others could try to do the same? Each of our journeys can enrich everyone else's.

Anyway, some thoughts I'm throwing out there. ;))

Hugs,
Gypsy

hi binkedo,
I loved our spiritual journeys and never understood why they stopped it. It was similar to here. I was close to a lot of people there, so I am glad I found this place. OSJ was too busy, if you didn't read it every night, you were way behind that is if you wanted to read all the posts. I actually thought because I was there so much that was the reason my X left ( yeah, Mr non commit) (:- ) I have no suggestions. sometimes I don't start something because I am not reading anything spiritual or have no questions etc sometimes I get spiritually boring, although I keep everything in my heart as much as I can and talk to THEM!!!!!!!!!!!all the time. Today I was talking to my late hubby's ashes. (:- ) We all change what space we are in. I try to spend a little less time on the computer. I will say because I don't have a relationship with a guy, I am on it more than I'd like. Maybe I shouldn't say that either, computers are really fun. Where else can you connect with the world staying home? don't worry, it all falls into place. Love, Leila
