Here's a great little quiz from BeliefNet... don't forget to tell us how you scored! :-) http://www.beliefnet.com/healthandhealing/getcontent.aspx?cid=21276&WT.mc_id=NL54

I was thinking about things that have helped me not to "take too much inside" and cause high levels of stress. One book in particular came to mind: "The Four Agreements:"
http://www.miguelruiz.com/teachings/fouragreements.html
Understanding how we "take in" wrong information and attach it to ourselves, how societal and other conditioning has affected us, was very helpful to me.
Just wanted to throw this resource out there! ;))
Additionally, I do daily t'ai chi chih practice and walk my dog. Visit the redwood tree out back. Stand in the rain. Feel the rain on my face, or the sun or the wind. Reconnect with Nature, with Life. And remember a lot of what gives me stress and unease are mental constructs. Then ask which ones I WANT to commit or agree to, and which ones I do not.

You are such a sweet, caring person. In fact, everyone here seems like that!
If you were my next door neighbor, I would have you over for a cup of coffee--no!
herb tea! ;-)
hugs, Nikki
I love the 4 agreements, and look at it as one of the books that truly changed my life/ my perceptions. It is so simple, yet profound.
Back to the quiz- I think that these are just parameters that have been found to increase stress in people's lives- I don't think that someone with a high score is automatically a stressed out person. People receive/respond to stimuli differently, I believe. And on the flip side, there are people who seem to have everything going their way and smooth sailing, yet feel very stressed anyway. I think the quiz is a useful tool in that if a person DOES feel stressed, these are definitely areas to look at to see if a change in any of them will help.
At least, that's how it seems to me!
Have a lovely day!
Way off the subject, but what does the little blue face emoticon relate to? It's sort of scary, huh! It looks like it might mean "I need more oxygen, get me out of this smoky bar!" or "Whoopsy- my sleep apnea is kicking up again." or "woooooooooooooooo---- I am a sleeping ghost" The rest of the icons seem to fit, but I can't find one that fit's a blue face!!! Thought of another one- "I'm going to hold my breath until you gimme some candy!"
Sorry- I get silly sometimes,
Nikki
LOL!! I think silly is a good thing (luved your post)! Anyway the blue face is the "Let's calm down" icon and I guess it means *chill* and that's why it's blue??? Not sure ~ but I like your ideas better, it is kinda scary looking isn't it?
Blessings, "M"
Hi, back! Nice to meet you! :P
I agree. ;)) Some people thrive in "whirling dervish" lifestyles. Always busy doing something. Others benefit for a slower pace -- or a different kind of pace. It's difficult, though, to sometimes match up with a lifestyle in which we feel we can thrive. I also don't think ALL stress is necessarily bad. It motivates us, challenges us. Keeps us moving toward a goal or dream. If there was no stress at all, we might be bored to tears, LOL! :D

This is another book title I've seen mentioned several times since my own return to the Village last year.
Got this in email this morning and I thought this wisdom also applied to reducing stress, creating happiness in our lives. So I thought I'd share. What do you think? :D

HOW TO STAY YOUNG (and de-stressed and create some happiness in your life...):
1. Try everything twice. On Madam's tombstone (of Whelan's and Madam) she said she wanted this epitaph: "Tried everything twice...loved it both times!"
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. (keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches;)
3. Keep learning:
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening,
whatever. Never let the brain get idle.
"An idle mind is the devil's workshop."
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.
6. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. LIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love: Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
11. Forgive those who made you cry now. You might not get a second chance.
Success isn't about never falling down - it's about what you learn when you fall - and always getting back up!
Blessings,
Gypsy
