...ghosts, apparitions, and things that go bump in the night?  Why or why not?Have you had personal experience with a paranormal spirit?

I absolutely do believe in things that bump in the night and so forth. I've had spiritual visitations from people who've passed away mostly in dreams. I also lost a dear kitty a few years ago, and his is the only spirit that I've ever encountered. I swear I could feel his energy around me for awhile after his death. Also my other kitty would hiss at the air or something when there was nothing apparently there.

Even my DH could sense his presence even though he doesn't really believe in the paranormal. But he agrees with me that he'd feel him waiting, when we got out of the shower just like he used to and sometimes we could feel him sleeping on the bed with us.

My mother still feel my Dad's presence after he passed on a few years ago. He comes to visit me in dreams from time to time.

My mother also lived in a house that she swears was haunted. She isn't into the paranormal either ordinarily, but she does believe in ghosts, spirits and haunted houses because of her own experiences. She's also the only one who really believes me when I've mentioned my visits from my father.

Interesting question of the week!

I have never had personal experience with a human spirit, but I definitely felt the presence of Duncan, my beloved Weimaraner for several weeks after he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I haven't seen anything "ghostly", but DF has a poltergeist. it's very interesting. All the dumb things that happen. Usually it happens when he's angry. Like a mirror will break, or a toy car will fly across the floor, or a cupboard door will slam. It use to scare me, but I'm used to it now, and apparently it's been happening to him for years and years, since he hit puberty.

It's not bothersome anymore, but I sure don't think it has anything to do with ghosts or apparitions, but it's the definite cause of the things that go bump in the night at our house. It's in his head, he just exerts more energy than other people.

FYI...I'm not at all religious...but I'm interested in what others think about poltergeists.

One of the spirits in my parents' house was a poltergeist.

See, this is different. He seems to be the poltergeist. Or, the poltergeist follows him around.

What did your mom say to make it go away?

I believe in spirits and ghosts of all kinds, including apparitions of heavenly beings such as angels and the Virgin Mary. I once lived in an apartment built on indian burial ground, and I could swear the place was haunted...but it was a friendly ghost who apparently fixed my toilet (I'll tell the whole story if interested).

I do have a much more dramatic experience in my past that I am reluctant to talk about. I am bipolar, and I'm afraid you folks will just think I'm crazy, but I know what I experienced. I'll only post that experience on request and with no prejudgements of me being a nut.

I would love to hear your story about the toilet. I've long since passed the stage where I think people are crazy for having a personal experience. I've had my own experiences that people don't care to understand. Personally I think that somebody with Bi-Polar is more open to spiritual visitations and different energies. So share your story! I would love to hear it! I think others would also.

OK, I'll share the story about the toilet first because it is the fun one. When I was teaching in Page, AZ (which is on land previously owned by the Navajo tribe), I would often hear knocking on the wall. I lived in a duplex, so when this happened, I would go next door to tell them to knock it off and they wouldn't even be home. Also, the doorbell would ring and no one would be there (and there is no where to hide in the front.) When my future husband came to visit, his Tums disappeared, and I looked everywhere for them, even when I moved, and they simply vanished. The toilet is the best part. I started having serious problems at work and I came home one Friday night devastated. The toilet wasn't working, the chain probably fell off, and the landlord wasn't around to fix it. But three days later? It flushed, and continued to flush. I think the ghost felt sorry for me and wanted to do something nice for me...

Now for the dark story. In 1999, I believe I was possessed by an evil spirit. One morning in June, I woke up apparently having a psychotic break, but the thing was is that this did not feel like any psychotic break I'd had before or since. I'd lose control of my limbs, and I just didn't feel like myself. I wanted so badly for it to be over, and that night, a voice in my head said "it's over" and I said I couldn't believe, and he replied, "BELIEVE!" Later that night, a spirit in my head told me I had been possessed, and that my psychiatrist at the time (of all people) cursed me. Well those spirits lie, so who knows? Fast forward to August. I was trying to go to sleep one night when I smelled a bad smell of sweaty tennis shoes in the room. There were no such shoes in the room. I didn't feel comfortable sleeping there, so I woke up for awhile...and prayed. Things continued to happen- the family dog kept growling at me, I was always getting these bad tastes in my mouth that would not go away despite lots of tooth brushing, doors would open and close around me. I did ask my church for an exorcism, but they just passed me off as a bipolar whacko. It all ended when a fundamentalist friend of mine told me that demons sometimes go away without exorcisms, that if you "give yourself to Jesus" they can't stand habitation. So I prayed to Jesus for help, and it was over. I should also add that I also received help from the rosaries and bible readings I did during this time- that would chase the evil ones away temporarily, particularly the rosary.

OK folks, I may be a nut, but I can dress myself and hold down a job. I hope you don't think any less of me:0!

I guess I believe in spirits and things that go bump in the night. As for personal experiences mmm, you could say I have had one or two with polite spirits and many experiences with the not so friendly kind.
