Where's your balance point?

I'm stealing this from another CL, who found it in Oprah's newsletter.  Such a fantastic idea to really think about!  Sure stopped me in my tracks when I first read it.

How much time and money do you spend each week on your appearance? Is it more than you spend on your inner life? Is this how you want to allot your resources and attention?

it is a very good point, at first I had to think for a minute because I spend a lot on the outside. Used to spend a lot on spiritual books, classes. Now, being still, looking at the trees, birds, gratitude, my cats thinking about loving people and voila, that's all I need. What I spent before has paid off now. Love, Leila

I have a tendency to get out of balance the other way,at least according to my daughter!! I invest a lot in my spiritual life, not so much money, but time and energy. But you can hear my daughter moan at me--"Mom, those jeans are ssooooooooooooo old and old fashioned, when are you going to get some new clothes!?!" And honestly, I just don't pay much attention to that kind of stuff anymore. I keep clean and neat, but don't do my nails, have a simple haircut, and very rarely wear makeup.

I've been thinking about this since I read it yesterday. I spent my morning commute thinking about it actually.

I don't spend very much time or money at all on appearance. I'm 20 minutes, shower, dry, brush, floss, deodorant, dress, out the door. Even most of those aren't really appearance, more like hygiene. Even my clothes ... top of the pile, it's just what's clean. When I worked in the service industry I had to take a little more time but I still didn't take much. I could probably spend more time and effort on my appearance. It might be a big boost in self esteem and self confidence. You've really got me thinking!
