Mind over medicine & vice versa

I recently had a laser treatment to get rid on some pesky bumps in a bad place. My OB/GYN had told me that my "body should take care of them," but since my immune system is currently in shambles, it didn't. The laser did. I had a brief moment of shame that I couldn't handle it on my own but am glad to watch them dry up and go away now.
So, the basic question is, at what point do you trust your faith and your own physical resources to heal you, and for what do you go running for modern medicine? Do you try home remedies and diet/supplements first, or do you call your doctor?

It just depends.

I am a combo~ I am totally into faith,
Having been a pharmacy technician for 10 years, I have a basic knowledge of what does and doesn't work for me among the OTCs, and I have a pretty good sense of when I am
Basically, if it is not life threatening, I will try to treat myself through holistic means first, but the trouble is the huge cost for holistic treatments, an out of pocket expense, vs. regular medical care, which is covered with a small co-pay. For example, to seek acupuncture and Chinese herbs can cost upwards of $100, then subsequent visits and herb supplies. I don't have that kind of $$ available. >>:-[] Again, it depends. I get a medical overview and doctor's evaluation and recommendations, then I figure out what I can afford from my "holistic arsenal" and go from there. Neither holistc NOR regular medical care, alone, is really good, IMO. A combination makes more sense. IF YOU CAN AFFORD any care at all. I had a ruptured cervical disc. Surgery was iffy but covered. I tried chiropractic and acupuncture and that worked. But it took us a year to pay off the out of pocked expense. I was lucky, we took retirement monies and used those...
I back up whatever treatment I'm getting with candle magic, healing ritual, meditation visualization, and t'ai chi to try to unblock my chi and get it moving, healing breaths, etc.
