Mind over medicine & vice versa

I recently had a laser treatment to get rid on some pesky bumps in a bad place.  My OB/GYN had told me that my "body should take care of them," but since my immune system is currently in shambles, it didn't.  The laser did.  I had a brief moment of shame that I couldn't handle it on my own but am glad to watch them dry up and go away now.

So, the basic question is, at what point do you trust your faith and your own physical resources to heal you, and for what do you go running for modern medicine?  Do you try home remedies and diet/supplements first, or do you call your doctor?

My belief is that our minds ultimately heal our body, not medicines, herbs, etc. Even if we resort to medicines, it is really our faith that the medicine will work that heals us. Another factor in illness, imo, is that it is serving a function for us, or we wouldn't allow it.
I always try prayer/meditation/seeing myself as well first. It has worked for me for 'small' illnesses, such as colds, stomach flus, being the only one in the house to not get a cold, etc... but I haven't been able to heal a knee I injured skiing a few years ago. So- next step- exercise, physical therapy, wearing a supportive knee band. I must have more belief in that, as I am seeing improvement. I don't think I will need to resort to surgery, but if at some point in the future I do, it means that my belief in the physical exercise wasn't enough.

I go to God first. I pray about the situation and try to figure out which direction He wants me to go in. I do not think using modern medicine is bad. I do think that running to it without letting God do His thing first, if He so chooses, is wrong. There are many ways that God can heal someone. I don't think He should be limited. Just my .o2.
