Finding cursed money?

Hi all,

I have a few really weird questions and would appreciate any answers/thoughts. I came across a $100 bill while getting iced coffee at a Starbucks after work today. It was a new bill, neatly folded in half, and lying on a small rack of cookies in front of the cash register. It was at about the spot where most people hold their wallets to look for cash while they're at the register, so I figured that it must have fallen from someone's wallet. Two people ahead of me in line ignored it while they were there and no one came around to look for it. So, I just took the bill and put it in my wallet when I got up to place my order.

Now, I did go through some thoughts:
- I should give it to the cashier, in case someone came back for it
- I should just ignore it, in case someone came back for it
- I should leave it because it could have been put there purposely (cursed and planted there?)
- I should just take it (everyone is ignoring it and no one is coming back for it)
- etc etc.

I have been tithing for a while and was planning on writing my next tithe check when this came about. Being a semi-religious Catholic and still reading prosperity books by teachers of Unity and Kabbalah (all 3 stress tithing), I decided that I would take the money and give 10% as a tithe (figuring that the other 90% would be "cleansed" even if it were cursed in any way).

Then, the woman that was in front of me spoke in passing (she must have seen me)... She said that she also saw it but thought it was unusual, so she left it alone in case it was planted there for a reason. That just got me thinking all over again about the bill being cursed and planted. I figured that no bill was worth bringing home misfortune to my family (esp. after having had some nightmares recently about my very-much alive father dying). So I dropped it off in the offerings box at the Catholic church just around the corner. I figured that any possible curse on the bill would be no match against God's powers and that the money would be cleansed by the time the priests get to it.

Now the questions:
- Is a curse on that bill even possible? (or is that just superstition?)
- If I had kept it, would tithing make the remaining 90% clean?
- Since teachers of prosperity usually tell you to pick up any money found (ignoring it would send a message to the universe that you're not interested in finding money), would I be justified in taking it?
- Did I act properly by depositing the whole thing into the offerings box at the church? (or am I just being paranoid?)
- If this bill were indeed cursed, would I have any residual curse hanging onto me just from taking the bill and bringing it to the church?
- Why else would people plant money, if it were planted?

I realize that some of these questions are really strange and about stuff that not a lot of people think about, but I was just curious. Thanks in advanced for any thoughts you can give to me.

Later,

Hi, I read your post twice and each time I was left with the feeling that this was something done haphazardly. I think someone dropped some money and it just takes the one person, like you, who is brave enough to pick it up. I don't think it's necessary to tie anything to it, guilt, fear, paranoia. I personally do not believe in curses on people or things, I believe that to be the manifestation of movies and media.
I do like what you did with the money, it was a very nice gesture. For some people, it could have just meant the next bag of drugs to buy.
It is obvious you are a good and caring person!

In that situation I most likely would have just given it
to the clerk to deal with it.

Why didn't you just tell the cashier that you found some money there (don't tell them the dollar amount and how it was folded), leave your name and address and have that person call you OR turn it over to the police? Then if no one claims it after a certain number of days, it's yours to do with what you wish.

I think keeping it is bad karma. It belonged to someone else who may be frantically looking for it. As a matter-of-fact, finding it and not reporting it may be against the law.

Just my opinion but I believe in what goes around, comes around.

<< Why else would people plant money, if it were planted? >>

I agree with other posters that it was most likely just a manifestation of abundance, but in case it was "planted"... maybe it was a social experiment, and you should look forward to seeing yourself on Dateline's upcoming special, "Finding 100 bucks at Starbucks"... ;)
