QOTW: Creation stories

I think we're all familiar with the Christian story of God creating the earth and heavens in a week.  Other religions have their stories as well, though I'm embarrassed to say I'm not familiar with any of them.  I'm curious what people actually believe, whether it follows a religious story or not.  I personally haven't fully made up my mind.

How do you believe the earth was formed?

I can see the concept of evolution better than what is written in the Bible.

I don't think that God created the heavens and earth in seven 24-hour periods. Each "day" might have been one thousand years, or two million years, who knows?
I also don't think that God just said, "Let this happen" and it magically came together. I think that the laws of science have always existed and that God used His knowledge of them to create.
Basically, I believe that God and science co-exist.

Tell you one interesting thing. The priest who gave us religious class in church actually taught us that first twelve books in the bibles (or so, not sure I can remember any more the right number :)) are fiction, a scenical description to make us people see how God is great and mighty.
I was thankful that at least one "unlogical" bible story was actually described in the right way by Catholic priests as well.
I remember literally he said "This is scenical description of creating the earth, what really happened the Church leaves it to scientist to figure out".
Wow, ha? :))

I was told something very similar by an Episcopal priest.

How Earth was created is interesting since so many contrary explanations.

To me what I'd like to be answered is why was it created. Is it because of us to be able to come here to "learn" something or just because it was...

Two membranes bumped into each other causing a HUGE explosion sending matter flying and expanding. Heavy elements and gases combined into suns, they grew and exploded sending matter careening again and again and again. Super heated pieces of matter lumped together and became captured in the gravity pulls of stars. A planet just about the same size as ours slammed into earth when it was still molten sending a big chunk of it into space where it was captured by our gravity, creating the moon. The moon stabilized the earth's wobble giving us temperate zones allowing life to evolve. I'm all about the science.

I'm still working on how and why life formed. And I'm still working on what a membrane is, if it's part of something even bigger, where they came from, what will happen to them over time, how they got there. I can't think that big yet. :)

Gosh I don't think anyone knows the details. But my guess is it the Earth was created the same way as all the other planets.
