Create your own reality?

Do we create our own reality? or is it created for us?   Several of the posts on other topics have alluded to our paths being somewhat set, either by our souls before birth, or by a God who knows what is best for us.  What about free will?  Where does that fit in?

A speaker and author I admire proposes to evoke your own reality, that is, bring it forth in others by your own actions and responses to your world.  This has a lot of appeal to me.

What do you think about your reality?

I think we are the masters of our own destiny, the creators of our own reality.

I believe that there are "n" possibilities and that our actions and the actions of others cause the reality that we are in. For example...I choose to drive down road A instead of road b. The deer decides, at that same time to cross road A...see where this is headed.

It incorporates free will and a bit of chaos theory. Actually, now that I read this over...I think I am a bit odd.

I believe the life we are to live is partly decided for us at the time of birth by the result of a previous life, but that then we are free to live it as we want, how we lived this life will determine the next life.

We are born with certain character traits we didn't decide to have or not have, but the way we use them to our advantage or disadvantage are our choice. I feel like lives (past, present and furute) Are like a big school, you don't decide which classes are to be thought, but you are free to attend or not attend one or don't do your homework, you just face the consequences of your choices later.
I also strongly believe that if you ask god or fate for guidance you'll get it and a path will be placed before you but it's again up to you to recognize the signs.

I can say that meeting my DH was truely an act from Fate it actually started very very early in my life but it's only obvious now that I have the big picture :

When I was 15 and in middle school back in Geneva, our English teacher had a 1 weeks school trip planned for us to London, and this city clicked with me, I LOVED it, I had the oportunity to go again 2-3 years later with my dad and loved it even more, so much I had to go again with my mom, and then alone, and then another time with my best friend. In 2000 I started having Internet at home and I really had that dream of living in london and find love there didn't happen quite that way though but I'll come to this). I first met this guy online who was 10 years older than me and turned out to be a one night stand as well as my first date. It was closely follow by a dear friend of mine who was indian and living in London, things could have worked if it wasn't for him to be totally mentally confused the irony was that before really "dating" him I felt it was not meant to be because he was Indian and I had that idea in my mind the guy I would fall in love with was british LOL When i was breaking up with this guy I actually started chating with my now DH it was in 2001 and we actually started falling in Love online before I knew I would knew he was going to UK for work, he came to know that in November 2001 and it turned out it was in London :-) So we met in april 2002 and love continued to grow, April 2002 was my last visit to London and I never felt like going again as I finally had the feeling I found what I was looking for there and that my life would take me anywhere Dh would be, turned out this anywhere has been India :-)
Now I really don't hink fate planned the whole thing, but yest DH and I were meant to be but before being so I had to change my state of mind and I did so through trials and errors just as anybody would do, mine occured around London, and what I probably felt there at the age of 15 was just the feeling something REALLY important would happen ther and I them shaped it according to what would be more reasonable and it turned out that the "unreasonable" was the right thing LOL

My beliefs have changed as many times as my hair color over the years. My mother believes in spirits, however she does not believe in any god/religion. She allowed me to believe in whatever I wanted. As a result of being a science junkie from birth I grew up believing in evolution/natural selection. At age 7 I was exposed to Christianity when we moved from CA to AR. I never felt like I fit in and developed beliefs that coincide with Wicca as I became older. At age 15 I moved to AL and was peer-pressured into being saved and taught there was only one religion that would get you to heaven, I could never be good enough, and if I prayed without ceasing my prayers would come true. Needless to say I frequently "back slid". In 1994 my grandmother fell ill to cancer and I prayed without ceasing for her to get well. She died that October. I've come to believe you can only pray for the will of the higher power to be done and chances are you may never understand why things happen because it is often not our place to understand. I've combined all these beliefs into one fuzzy idea and believe life is a combo of fate, chance, choice, & survival of the fittest.

I agree with both of you. Whenever I do spellwork or ritual work, I DO ask for specifics that I am aware of, but at the end of it, I ask the Goddess and God "for best outcome." Meaning, basically, that They understand what is truly needed, whereas I can only see a small part of the whole. So I ask that no harm be done, inadvertently, in my workings, and for best outcome. :)

Because we can only humbly ask for the will of the higher power to be done, I do not understand faith healers. I have seen two rather famous Christian faith healers in person who regularly appear on religious stations. I hate to sound negative but I really think these are elaborate parlor tricks designed to get donations. One of them actually laid hands on me to pray during a church service. It was my goal to be "slain in the spirit" or to speak in tongues. Being slain in the spirit means to literally fall under the power of the Holy Spirit. People fall to the ground without injury and appear to sleep or be in a trance. Speaking in tongues involves the Holy Spirit speaking through you in a language that is not your own. The message is usually interpreted by another person who feels compelled by the H.S. to speak. I'm going into detail because before I moved to the Bible Belt I had no earthly idea what any of this was. So anyway, he put his hands on my forehead, I closed my eyes, and he PUSHED ME. I stood there not believing this guy was pushing me. Needless to say I was the only one he touched that nothing happened.

I think that we do have some free will, that there are some things that are also decided for us..so I guess I believe in a little bit of both of these things, hope that doesn't sound to non-committal..it is how I truly feel.
