Create your own reality?

Do we create our own reality? or is it created for us?   Several of the posts on other topics have alluded to our paths being somewhat set, either by our souls before birth, or by a God who knows what is best for us.  What about free will?  Where does that fit in?

A speaker and author I admire proposes to evoke your own reality, that is, bring it forth in others by your own actions and responses to your world.  This has a lot of appeal to me.

What do you think about your reality?

When he pushed me I was shocked at first, then I became determined not to fall. It was laughable but at the same time broke my heart because I had expected something grand to happen. I think it may be like hypnosis - some people can be put under because they are willing and some people can't because they fight it. I guess I'm a fighter! I've learned that I can't just expect a miracle, and (in my life)when one occurs it is completely a surprise.

I've experienced the same thing. It was like the whole room was full of people who were "blessed" with the presence of the holly spirit, and when the priest "pushed" me I also stood there and didn't fall on the ground. I don't know but I think people get themselves into thinking that it's really happening and just let themselves be overwhelmed more with positive feeling than with actual touch of the holly spirit.

I don't think you were the only one not moved by the spirit.

That's terrible that you were pushed.

My ex mother in law speaks in tongues and she is such a good person. I know her ability is 100% genuine. I really admire the gift.

I'll have to check out Joyce Meyer. Thanks!

I believe that free will is God's greatest gift to us, and that we have total free will. So yes, it follows that I do believe we create our own reality. I don't think it is all on a conscious level, though. I think our subconscious or higher selves are putting us in situations where we get the most value and learning in our evolution.

I think that those times that we are aware we created our circumstances are those times when our conscious is in alignment with our higher selves.

On another note, we also create our reality by how we choose to percieve those things we go through. Sort of like we are coming from a certain place in our minds (love or fear) and that is projected out onto the world, and strongly colors how we see things.

Hi, I'm new here. Just coming by to check things out. I've been in a lot of spiritual turmoil for awhile now, so I don't feel prepared to answer the question at hand. I've been Baptist, and Christian (those are different, to an extent), and Wiccan, and sometimes just spiritually dead, as I feel right now. I'm so confused! I believe in God, but I feel more at home in a Wiccan environment. I believe in free will and predestination, and I have circumstantial evidence about reincarnation. But what about the Natural...all those elements in the world we can't control and are simply the laws of Nature being played out, such as hurricanes and floods and droughts? Or the behavior of animals, such as a deer stepping in front of your car. ?? I'm puzzled by that. The teaching I've heard says that God has His plan set, and it accounts for our free will (because no matter what He already knows what we're going to choose, even though He lets us go ahead and choose it), but ultimately it will happen the way He wants. But what about things that look like God's will, but are really just natural occurrences? How are we to tell those apart?

I'm confused. I think you all gave great answers - lots to think about! But I'm still confused for myself. I'll keep reading and maybe I'll come up with answers. Just sooo much pressure to believe a certain way that it's hard to come up with my own ideas. I know what I feel drawn to, but that's "unacceptable" to the people around me. And it's not just me I'm deciding for at this point; I have a 3 year old and almost 1 year old, so it's deciding for them, too, for the foreseeable future. Any thoughts? (I hope I'm not too sketchy.) Whatever you feel compelled to say will help me, even if you don't totally understand the situation or why you want to say something in particular.

Thanks, everybody! :) I look forward to reading more of the friendly discussions you guys have on this board!
