For myself, I chose "Other." :P

I am a Solitary Wiccan and incorporate many spiritual practices from a variety of sources, to enrich the worship of my Goddess and God. My path is one of inner revelation and insight and communication with my Goddess and God. No "middle men or women." Direct contact.

I was the only one who chose 'golden rule', but that's really put a finger on how my spirituality has developed so far.

I was raised Southern Baptist, but my father (who only had visitation/every other weekend with me) is Jewish (converted-Conservative). My experience with the Baptist church (save one that I attended for a few months) was one of intolerance & ignorance. I don't think this is the aim of the SBC, but this was the heart of it's people. If I am to be a Christian, which means Christ-like, I think the Golden rule is uber important, though not necessarily a Biblical ideal. If we look at the life of Christ--he was not judgemental, he was love. He ate with the 'sinners', befriended the most wicked of the time, then ultimately died with murderers forgiving the one that asked for it. So, I pulled away from the church.

Sadly, your experience is not an uncommon one from what I've read on boards such as this.

I also had to pick other because no one particular answer fit. I believe in a supreme being. I come from a family with no particular religion. Never discussed at home. But I did go to a southern baptist style church as a child with a neighbor, on occasion. I attended another baptist church after my first daughter was born. I was briefly a member of the LDS (mormom) church in my area, but didn't take me long to find I didn't fit in there at all! My beliefs I think just don't quite fit in in organized religion. I'm raising my children to believe there is more out there, and I know for a fact life doesn't end at death! I believe in the god given if you will, powers of our own psyches, that we can do amazing things if we believe we truly can. A scientists educated guess is still that at heart, a guess. :)

"My gut reaction to the world" summed up my style of religion very well. I think there's an inherent sense of right and wrong in everyone, and living by that sense will make you and others happy.

It saddens me to see that the Bible is not even one of the choices for what "guides my faith" and that "my gut reaction.." could be the top choice for viewers! How sad it must make Jesus to see that the world that He created is worshipping itself rather than the Creator....funny how even that is IN THE BIBLE..!
Romans 1:25 "They exchanged the truth for a lie and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator- who is forever praised." and Ezekiel 28:2 "In the pride of your heart you say 'I am a god'."
That is humanity's propensity to believe the lie and worship self.

Hmmm... I hadn't caught that Barb had missed 'sacred texts' (and I must point out that the Bible isn't the only one) but I'd think that could easily fall under 'doctrines of my religion.'

Sorry if that may appear to be an oversight.

Ok thank you for responding. Since Jesus tells us in no uncertain terms that He is The Way, the Truth and the Life and the ONLY way I cannot see how I can be here and just accept all kinds of various "opinions". This is not a matter of being unloving or being unkind to you all but of being faithful to my God. So I guess I have found the wrong board for me. I am sorry for any offense. May you be blessed.
