Your Next Goal?
| Mon, 09-18-2006 - 9:59am |
What's the next talent you'd like to acquire, the next skill you’d like to master? Did you always want to learn how to sail, or play piano, or golf like a pro? Do you want to learn to bake like a French pastry chef, or turn your "black thumb" green in the garden? What's the next thing you want to learn how to do?

My next goal that I am currently working on, is finding a spiritual community. I am Wiccan and have been Solitary for many years. I have a nudge from my Goddess to seek community of people who believe in the diversity of spiritual belief and support one another on individual spiritual paths. I have recently started going to a UU church. I don't know yet if this will become a spiritual anchor and home, or not.
Like learning or trying anything new, sometimes ya just have to "jump in!" ;))

My Goal remains the same as it was a couple of years ago LOL : Learn Hindi, it's adifficult language and so far I haven't found a good book to teach me, or a good teacher for that matter, I used to take classes with a tutor but she was not really good, and I didn't learn anything appart from bossing my servants around (convenient when you have a maid who don't speak Hindi but Tamil). I was insisting on mordern colloquial hindi as it is what is spoken nowaday but most books and teacher around teach old school Hindi which has even DH laugh out loud as it is very old fashionned Now DH tried to teach me too but he is a poor teacher :-)
So at the moment I can read and write in the "devnagari" writing system (the one used to transcript hindi) and say a few basic sentences, but not enough to hold a conversation :-( His familly don't speak much English so I definitely need to speak Hindi...had an argument with my MIL about it though...she wants me to learn Hindi for my children!!! And i told her it was out of question I speak hindi with them as I'm a French native speaker and it would be more suited for me to speak French to them, she got all hyper about the fact it was a useless language and me telling her she could not call useless the language my familly speak. She then said it was useless to her and started lamenting that she'll never be able to speak to her grand children...not even listening to me telling her DH will speak hindi to them and that the'll be bilingual. I raised my voice telling her it was French or nothing I will speak to my kids...Period...she got the message clear I think.

LOL!
None of my goals fall into the creative or mind expanding topics you suggest.
Mine either.
Yup, mine either! lol.... I'm about saturated as far as creatism goes. Well, we did just get Adobe Photoshop CS:2 at the office! That'll be fun!!
However, my main goals are to paint the trim in my dining room and lay a new floor there, paint the main bath, and hallway. And when that gets done, start on my guest bedroom/future nursery (decorate it in a way that it won't be hard to switch to a nursery, kwim?).
Oh, there's so many!
I'd love to learn to rock-climb, but I also want to learn how to grow an herb garden, and I'd like to have more of a green thumb too, lol... and I'm also interesting in learning NLP.... so those are just a few of the things on my "short" list of things I'd love to do... :-)
I know how well young kids can learn a language so I want them to be exposed to many as it is a HUGE advantage nowaday to speak more than one :-)
My mom was a preschool teacher and had 3 boys attending they were speaking thai with their Tahi mother, English with their Swiss bilingual dad, and picked up french in preschool at a reccord speed.
I really think my MIL is over-reacting here and a bit old school. And I won't have this, our mariage is a multicultural one and it will be multicultural all the way. I'm not worried about future kids picking up English. You can't live in India and not be exposed to it :-)

I would like to learn about plants and gardening. The plant world is very interesting to me and I know so little about it. I hope to have a garden next year with not only plants that have veggies, but also a flower and herb garden.
