Do we "hex" ourselves?

from the profile:
"We need to remember careless, thoughtless speech can create havoc for us as much as any anyones direct effort to do so. If nothing else, not speaking truth can be confusing when we try to remember who we told what.
If I, as a witch/shamaness who knows the power of energy transformation, keeps saying something like It figures, things like this always happen to me (and the list is all negative) , don't you think those things will just keep happening (especially if I mastered some degree of being an adept) ? We could not begin to imagine how many times we caused our own problems by the number of times we hexed ourselves with thoughtless speech. Think energy conversion when we think of all those times we added the force of our anger and upset to whatever we were saying! Basic physics is not just for scientists. Negative speech, especially when we belittle ourselves, also reinforces whatever poor esteem and attitude issues we may each be fighting. Working on change is difficult as it is but would any one us have thought change would begin with the mouth? "
I read this woman's profile, who wrote an essay about Samhain/Halloween, and I was intrigued. We cause ourselves harm by our attitudes toward each other, our attitudes we bring with us moment to moment in our lives, etc. In Zen terms, we cause our own suffering. And that of others through our reactions.
I found it interesting to put it this way, how our own inner landscape, shapes our reality and our interpretations of life around us, and our interactions. Creating havoc, offense, sadness, hurt, harmful energies -- or uplifting and inspirational or loving or peaceful energies. What we "send out" comes back to us three-fold, in my beliefs. Staggering thought, when I take time to pay attention. <:=o
And then I thought much of what this woman talks about applies to the varying spiritual paths I have walked just in this lifetime, with different religions, or none at all. Our inner focus, about ourselves, others, the planet, life in general, diversity, what have you create the environment we choose to live in. Our religions, spiritual paths and philosophies of life form part of this, as does our life experience.
These kinds of things interest me at this time of year, as we come into fall and winter, when spiritual pursuits and inner yearnings seem to become stronger. A time of evaluation, of looking at our own personal "harvests."
Comments? Ideas? Insights? ;))

I totally agree, but I have always called it "Create / Evoke your own reality!"

Not really into Siggees...
Yes, I have used "make my own reality" words in the past, also. What made this woman's profile statements interesting to me was, besides obviously we have similar spiritual paths, that "hex" is a VERY STRONG term. As a Witch, I see hexing as very serious spellwork, and personal integrity, paying attention to the Rede, "Harm None," as well as the Three-fold Law, with an eye to Karmic consequences, is absolutely critical. So in a way, using this word and believing in the Power of Magick within us, is very "earth-shattering" to me in ways that "creating my own reality," as an offshoot of media touted pop psychology connotations, does not. So using the word Hex had great impact for me, personally. Maybe because I've just heard the other and used it for so long, it's impact is no longer very strong? So, this kind of brought me up short, as to how much real harm I have done to myself over the years, and through that self-harm, harmed others as well. <:=O

Wow.
You're welcome! :) I think this energy or power within us has many facets and can be looked at, like a jewel, from many different angles. Some angles have deeper significance than others, to our individual eyes.

Greetings Gypsy,
Thanks for posting this article. I recently began listening to affirmations on my ipod from Louise Hay. She is a good resource for positive thinking. In her book/cd "I can do it" she says something very similar to this when discussing affirmations. She says that negative ones are just as powerful as the positive ones. So by telling your self, I can't do it, I am not good enough, I don't have enough money, etc. It gives it substance and power. It really makes a lot of sense.
So I'm trying to be "positive" I want good things in my life, I want to be happy, I want a good future. Since doing the affirmations I have gotten a good job with benefits, moved to a new town, and live in a cute little townhouse.
I'm a believer,

That is AWESOME! :)) I have several of her books as well. Very powerful.
