God giving you lessons?

I wonder if you guys feel like god is testing you or sending you lessons in a form or another from time to time.
DH and I got a puppy this weekend, a cuttie pie of a labrador which is 1.5 month old. While I'm thrilled I'm realizing that this little furball is seriously challenging my world LOL
I'm very impatient, and don't like having my surrounding or daily routine changed brutally unless it was my decision, I'm concious of this and in fact I've been trying to change in vain...put in on the account of no motivation...same for exercising LOL
And with a 1.5 month old puppy, I have NO choice but to learn to be patient while potty training her, feeding her, taking care of her, and stop expecting perfection from a live bieng who is just starting in the big big world. It seems god has been sending me some help to work on that issue. it's frustrating, but so worth it.
Whats more DH also has lessons to learn from the doggy, as he often have problems sorting priorities, and feel responsible about money, and household stuff. And I can only see the puppy as a test for when we will want to have children.
Could it be that god suddenly take some matters into their own hands if we keep stumbling over the same rock?

I don't see that god thrust this responsibility upon you, but rather provided the opportunity and you made the choice to receive it.
Yes, I believe that animals come to teach us more about being human, as much as we think we teach THEM. :D All the animal friends I have had down through the years, from parakeets, to turtles, to gold fish, to dogs, to guinea piggies, have all given me spiritual lessons. They have been my teachers as much as I have been their caregiver. I am deeply grateful for the gift of their presence in my life!
My Mika dog, a now four and a half year old, deaf Aussie Shepherd/Border Collie mix, teaches me about courage in the face of my diminishing hearing. How to feel joy in everyday life. How to get up with a positive attitude every day. She changed DH's and my life profoundly, as all our animals have. She was a year old when we adopted her, but has her "issues" having been deaf from birth, and living in shelters her whole life. But little by little we work through, and develop trust, friendship, and make a life together. My life would be incomplete without her. :P
Here are some dog boards here on iVillage:

Lots of people post questions about their puppies and training and so forth. The Dog Behavior board has some great people on it, and lots of resources in the archives as well.
Having animals is an amazing journey, that's for sure! ;))
Hope that helps!

Congrats! We have a lab too (along with the rest of America :-P)
They are wonderful dogs (after you get everything away from that tail!)
She was the easiest to potty train and LOVES her crate more than the others - we have 4. We were given a free crate and when she grew out of it and had a bigger one--she still stuffed herself into the old one!!
Dogs are great getting you ready for kids. Kids are more responsibility, but dogs are great stepping stones. AND with a dog, the conscientious dog owner is forced to exercise! Which seems pretty great to me! Afterall, how can you ignore those beautiful brown eyes? Dogs also need a schedule=kids need a schedule.

Jasmine (My dog)seems quite easy to train, just really need to watch her constantly because she tries to bend the rule when you are not looking. So far she seems to understand that poop happens outside but that pee is ok to do anywhere she fancies...grrrr
In one week she seem to have scared my maid away (she used to come at irregular times but now don't come at all), took the toilet brush as a hostage, claimed my low divan as hers (when i'm not looking...as I scold her if I catch her on it...but she leaves souvenirs on it...so I always know). Got a total ego boost after she scared a big dog away by doing nothing but sit in the middle of the street, decided the cardboard box full of dusters is hers to play with, and that 6 am is a decent time to wake me up....not to pee...NOOOOO but to play bite...a thing I want her to quit doing on my hands and feet. I try to replace it by playing tug of war with her towel instead, but ultimately she always come back to try nibbling my toes...all that of course at 6 AM!!!! Oh and yesterday she high jacked the newspaper behind my back...but since she is tiny and tried to drag the unfolded thing she stepped on it and went doind a sumersault before decididng to drag it walking backward while I was dead laughing.

I think you made the choices for what you had to learn, a puppy is a baby in essence. Maybe we instinctively know what we need to adjust to. Puppies are about love. Love is a priority. Leila
PS for the people who know me, I am the same leila, i had to change my name as it wasn't recognized by my new e-mail
