QOTW: What is October 31st to you?
| Sun, 10-22-2006 - 2:31pm |
October 31st may be one of the most controversial days on the calendar. Different cultures and religions view it very differently, even calling it by different names. Some revere it; some abhore it. Tell us what this day it to you: what do you call it? what does it mean to you? how will you celebrate it?

Halloween.....I term it as an ending of summer, and the half-way point between fall and winter....a night of fun, excitement, and mystery for the children. Of course, it's been dramatized heavily with advertising much the same as our major holidays, but the public has no control over that.
I've always enjoyed Halloween evening, and taking my DDs out on their Trick or Treat tours when they were young. I know it has different meanings in other countries and religions, and a little of each of these meanings seem to be the general makeup of Halloween, as we all know it today....

To me it is simply a milestone which marks the beginning of the holiday season from Halloween through new Year's Day. I don't really think of it in any other way, really --- and this year we are hiding out. I'm off sugar and processed carbs (pre-diabetes diagnosis) and so I don't wsant any left-over candy in the house.
Besides, DH NEVER does the candy-handing-out thing which means I have to spend the evening hanging out near the door and that is BORING!
So I think I'll spend Halloween evening in my basement craft area, making swap Christmas cards! LOL
