Heheh I HAD to post other LOL

Because in our multicultural familly one holiday would simply not be fair. Diwali is very important to both DH and I of course and this year the only "regret" was that we did the planning at the 11th hour and I was tensed with my very dumb stepmom and her dumber attitude (may dad and her were in Bangalore for Diwali). So much that on 21st october in the morning, the house was a mess, and none of the decoration where in place, or the sweet bought. We booked a table in a fancy restaurant for the evening, but all the last minute stress plus a call from my MIL reminding me to do the "pooja" (worship) before 7pm was important had me struggling to drape a saree, and when I finally did it my dad annouced he was slightly hungry and my stepmom suggest we eat sandwich or pasta for dinner!!!! Not carring Diwali is as important as Christmas...she even accusied me of comparing two celebrations that should not been compared as "obviously" Christmas is the MOST important.

Anyway we also celebrate Christmas, because I come from a country where it is celebrated and grew up in a christian familly, so I always feel homesick at this time of the year. Christmas is not about the birth of Christ for me, it's about spending a joyous moments with your loved one and bring a touch of magic into the cold winter. DH enjoy celebrating with me though we do it low key by ligthing a few cnadles (we don't have a tree because those available here are ugly) eating x-mass cokies and going out to a restaurant that makes turkey for dinner. Last year the restaurant we went to played the Boney M christmas tape...a tape that rocked my childhood christmas and it made my day...it really did

As a kid we were also celbrating St Nicolas day, as in Switzerland it means having a dinner (yup dinner) of dried fruits and nut with fresh tangerine and ginger bread. It's the ideal festival to make young kids patient until Christmas, and in Switzerland St Nicolas even comes in some districts to hand out goodie bags to the kids who attend the festival :-)

I voted Yule/Solstice. I'll celebrate the Solstice on Dec. 21st at 7:25pm, and celebrate Yule on Dec. 25th because I have the day off. I celebrate the world in balance on Solstice and celebrate the giving season on the 25th.

I chose "other" b/c I'm not really "celebrating" any of them. My mother still considers herself Catholic and my grandmother considers herself a follower of Jesus, but the way they "celebrate" Christmas isn't all that offensive to me (I mean, we really just eat and spend some time together, lol...it's no different than any other day), so I will be present for their Christmas "celebration", but I probably won't really celebrate anything else... Though I'm thinking I should go look up what St. Lucia day is all about... maybe I'd like to celebrate that... :)

Well, I celebrate Ramadhan and the two Eids (one at the end of Ramadhan and one one the last day of the Hajj pilgrimage) because most of my family celebrate that, but I also celebrate Chinese New Year because that marks the beginning of spring for us here, and Vesak (or waisak as it is known here, celebrating Buddha's birth, enlightment and passing).
