National day of thanks
| Sun, 11-19-2006 - 10:07am |
Thanksgiving Day in the US is a national holiday set aside for gathering with family and friends for fellowship and to give thanks. For those of you outside the US, is there such a day anytime during the year?
Thanksgiving isn't a religious holiday, and sometimes I wonder if it's just an official way to kick off Christmas commercialism, but folks seem to begin to warm their hearts and share their good fortune with the poor and hungry more now than at any other time of year. Too bad it only lasts 6 weeks!
So what will you do to give thanks? What are you most thankful for this year?

Thanksfulness for me is a daily spiritual exercise, as I stand in front of my altar to the Goddess and God. I do like the formality of a special day to emphasize it, though. A reminder to take the time to really appreciate what I have in my life. DH of over 30 years. DD. Mika Dog. Our old house continuing to shelter us and give us sanctuary. Food in the larder and on the table. Being able to pay the bills each month.
For Spirit. For peace & harmony in our lives. For the beauty of the changing colors of the leaves. For the crisp fall weather and the smell of wood smoke in the air. For Life! :)

No, in Indonesia we don't have a national day of thanks.
This year I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful that no one's ill in my family. I am thankful for my job. I am thankful for all the blessing big and small that are given to me each day.

I like the idea of setting aside a day of Thanksgiving. It's a good thing to focus on our blessings for a day, when we seem to take them for granted the other 364.
I am thankful that I survived major surgery & have a better handle on my health. In essence, that I am alive! jan
In London, it WAS religious for expats. We had services at St Paul's which were WONDERFUL!
I'm thankful for life in general this year --- and that I don't have to cook the entire meal this year!

That we were able to send my husband to that clinic to find out what we can do to get him better.
