ITA and I'm not PC at all. I think 'Happy Holidays' is very appropriate, not only because of the secular and religious winter holidays, it also covers New Years and Thanksgiving ... and since they start the holiday shopping season on/around/ sometimes before Halloween it can cover a LOT of holidays. :)

A couple of years ago, i heard about a store employee who was fired for saying "Bless you" to customers at Christmas. He didn't say God bless you and he just was expressing good wishes to the people who came in the store.

I thought this was ridiculous. What person takes offense at someone else wishing them joy and happiness- and blessings?

i sort of feel the same about the holiday/christmas greetings. In Toronto Canada they have a large holiday display which hilights the different holidays- it is all inclusive- they have symbols from almost every religion. But for some reason the Christmas tree was not allowed to be a Christmas tree- it had to be called a holiday tree! I have friends who are of different faiths. THEY thought this was ridiculous. They said everyone knew it wasn't a Hannukah tree or a Kwanzaa tree.

While working full-time at the local Montessori school as an Asst Teacher, I put up a Happy Easter painting and was asked to take it down....eventhough I cherish my Jewish heritage (sometimes coverted Jews are more hardcore than people whose families have been Jewish forever, that is certainly the case with my dad) just as much.

PC PC PC! lol....

I just don't think being sensitive about religious inclusion is an issue to get ones panties in a wad about.

I used to say Merry Christmas to all of our clients, except for the ones that I knew would celebrate a different holiday.

I usually will say "Happy Holidays" to someone I don't know, but prefer "Merry Christmas". I don't really care what others use because the purpose is to share the goodness of the season, not get hung up on words.

I am not too hung up on the greeting that the store clerks use. It just is not that important to me. Mostly it doesn't sound too sincere anyway if it is something they say just because they were told they must.

For me personally, my emphasis is on the religious aspect of Christmas.

I would want to hear whatever it is the well wisher believes because they are wishing me a happy holiday. If a frenchman said Bonjour - it still means hello even if it is not my language.

I think Happy Holidays is more inclusive, since not everyone celebrates Christmas.
