the essence of this board

is about love, kindness, respect and as the title says: faith and spirituality. here we are all more one than separated. This is not a religion board. Sure, things about religion come up of course. Faith and spirituality do not always mean religion. The flavor is about accepting, sharing and really it is not an analytical place in a heavy, text book type of nature. it is really for people who are tired of analyzing, who want to share and get new ideas. maybe we question and ask more than analyze. I think if one is truely heavily into their religion, they usually find a place that deals with that religion only. We would be a thorn on the side as we are not RELIGION based. Just my humble take. correct me if I am wrong. Love, Leila

Leila,

I totally agree with you. It's so sad that people have to lump religion and spirituality together. And if you dare mention that you're searching for a balance, people will jump on you and not understand like somebody did on one of my posts earlier in the dream section. You are truly an inspiration to me, Leila. Did you know that? I really have appreciated your posts in that you try to understand where people are coming from and give your insight without being critical of the original question just because it might go against your beliefs. I just wanted to say that to you.

I would love for people to understand that religion and spirituality might be two completely different things, but I'm not sure that they ever will. Ghandi and Mother Theresa were two of the most inspirational people that I totally admire. Neither was right or wrong in their beliefs. They just wanted to help people. I'm truly searching for some inner peace right now, which I need desperately and I would love to figure out which path would help me the most.

love to you, sister.

thank you, Stormy,

Yes, many people do know the difference between spirituality and religion, at least the 12 steppers do. Just today I was asking a patient if he know the difference between spirituality and religion as he had some negative thoughts about RELIGION of AA. We can always help people to understand. i hope you find that peace, as soon as you do, the cart gets upset again so we can learn some more. Love, Leila

Hmmmmm... guess I need to start looking around here!

My spirituality is evolving, probably always will be. I do play around the religion debate board, more for a specific reason than to debate anyone's faith. I'd like to go in a different direction, and your post very much intrigued me.

There isn't much I can contribute, so there will be a fair amount of reading!

Thank you... my beliefs are something I've held rather close and private, haven't shared much publicly, though have done so just a bit recently.

Being belief somewhat unique to me, not being someone who has read much on the subject, it rather limits my ability to contribute.

I've drawn (perhaps co-opted!) elements from many places... some from Catholicism (my background up to age 20 or so) from a friend who is a reiki master, from my own perceptions, a bit from Pema Chödrön, and probably heavily from Sue Monk Kidd in Dance of the Dissident Daughter, because so much of what she shared of her journey mirrored my own.

So it's one big soup, and I've no idea how to stir and heat it!

Anyway, I look forward to reading various opinions.

Thank you, though once I post something, ya might change that greeting to get lost or good riddance! Basically I know nothing of substance in things spiritual, only carry what is inside!

Beth, that's spirituality and what we are most interested in!

I am new and followed these threads with fascination. My observation was that if anyone was attacked and heatedly it was finding mimi. It seemed a lot of undercurrents were going on and that her(?) posts were not going to be tolerated. I got the impression that bink(?) thought she needed to be put in her place. Where is the tolerance and acceptance? Or is it only for people who agree or do not challenge us?

I am very disappointed in this board.
