How do you think it ends?

This last month has been a season of beginnings... Christians celebrated the beginning of their Savior's life, Jews celebrated a miracle and the beginning of freedom, pagans celebrated the beginning of the 'light' half of the year, and on a secular level, we all celebrated the beginning of a new calendar year. Somehow it all got me thinking about ending. About The End. But I can't quite decide what I think that end is.
I'm sure that at the end of this physical lifetime I'll have some resting/judgement period, and then incarnate into another physical body. My belief at this point is that I'll continue to do so until I've learned either everything there is to know about being human, or at least everything I want to know about being human. (My DS#2 suggested once to me that we have a choice when and whether to reincarnate, and I really think he's onto something with it.) But then what? Evolve into a higher spirit level? Like a guardian angel maybe? And then any higher forms from there? Or from there is it over and we just merge into Spirit for good? I don't think I like the idea of ever being stagnant. There must always be something new to learn, some new way to grow. :-/
Anyone else ever think beyond the individual lifetime? What do you think happens?

Love the question!
Energy can only be transformed.
I had an extensive numerology report done last year that was a real eye opener for me.
"Anyone else ever think beyond the individual lifetime? What do you think happens?"
I pretty much believe as you do. Life and death are doorways from and back to, the spirit realm, in my beliefs. While my physical body and personality ends, my Spirit does not. I believe upon death, and return to the spirit realm, I take stock of the lifetime I just left, sifting through the lessons and Karma built up or changed or worked with, and then plan my next lifetime and what the focus will be in it. I believe this process will continue, as you wrote, until I have learned all I am to learn, worked out all the Karma I have created, and then I will have the option either to stay in the spirit realm, or come back as a teacher/helper for others. I believe we're connected with the entire Universe(s), we are a part of everything. As my t'ai chi teacher long ago said, "we are stardust." :P Perhaps I can also choose to become part of the Whole, Energy, Life.

Let me tell you what happened to me, then draw your conclusions.
When I was 18 and in the hospital to have surgery, I had a "being" visit me regularly. I thought it was the drugs but still remember what it looked like. It would tell me that someone was coming to my room, would disappear and reappear when that person left. I really thought it was the drugs but it had continued for 3 days. On the last day, it told me that I wouldn't see it for quite a while but it would be watching me.
Fast forward 20 years....I was mad at my husband because of something he did. He was dying of pancreatic cancer. I couldn't forgive him. About 4 months after he died, I was lying in bed. The clock said 10:52 PM. I was praying to God that if I could have 30 seconds with my dh, I would apologize to him. That same being from 20 years earlier came to me and asked me to follow him. I recognized that being from when I was in the hospital. I followed him to a place and was told to wait. I was not allowed inside, yet. I wasn't in my physical body so it was really hard to explain. I remember an "energy ball" for lack of a better term, coming towards me. I knew it was my husband!!! We communicated by our hearts as no words were spoken. I felt the love he has for me and he knew that I had forgiven him. He told me that he would be waiting for me but had to leave. I watched him leave as the being came back to me to tell me that my time there was over. He led me out of there. At this point I took a very deep breath and sat up in my bed...WIDE AWAKE. I looked at the clock and it was still 10:52 PM! I had not fallen asleep at all and it wasn't a dream. I've come to the conclusion that the being is my guardian angel and is always watching over me. The place I was taken to...I'm not sure. All I know is that it was "outside" of where everyone else was. Was it near the Gates of Heaven?
I'm a practicing Catholic and my husband was an ordained deacon.
I know we're not recycled but will be judged when our time is up.
