using drugs to open up?

Hi,
I feel 'blocked' and would like to open myself up. Any suggestions on how to do this? Also, do drugs help open one up? I know there is a history of drugs for religious/spiritual purposes.

It's hard to feel connected to people as it is. Does this mean I shouldn't have friendships or casually date the casual, recreational user in your opinion?

No, I meant pot was bad news for me. It clouded my mind so that I *thought* everything in my life was just fine and wonderful, when it was *NOT*, in fact, fine and wonderful. It was deceptive, created illusion and fantasy, but not truth or clarity, is what I meant to convey, and was *NOT* at all a positive thing. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

My web site (link in my profile) has some information about my Wiccan path, some links and a book list as well. If you are interested in finding a Pagan group in your area, you might check the web site, www.witchvox.com, for more information, and I think they have a locator for finding Pagan groups. :P Also, if you have an occult/Pagan/NewAge shop that sells incense, dried herbs, books, candles, and altar supplies, you might check with them. Our shop has a bulletin board with listings of classes offered, Pagan public events in the area, etc. There is also a support board here on iVillage where you can talk with other Pagans as well, and which has lots of information and discussions, and a web site with information as well. http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-rlwiccan

As a Wiccan, I believe and do my utmost to follow the Rede, HARM NONE. That includes myself. Using drugs, IMO, harms myself, so with that one rule, I think the answer would be yes, against drugs, unless prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition, of course.

I would suggest trying yoga (especially kundalini) and meditation before you turn to substances. Although you can feel "opened up" with the aid of drugs, it's not a genuine connection to your higher power (in my personal experience) and it can be dangerous (I ended up in the psych ward of the hospital for 3 weeks).

What is a casual recreation user??????? Casual heroin, cocaine????? what? there is no such thing. When I drank a lot and was out dancing, drinking and screwing around, I thought everyone drank. when i hung around with sober people, I saw very few people who drank. Luckily I am not alcoholic and can have some wine with dinner. normal seems to be who is on your side of the fence. Hang out with users and you will join them, stay in the barber shop and you will get a hair cut, hang out with vegans and you will eat tofu and peanuts. you will choose your friends by what lessons you need to learn. If you need to be dragged down before coming up, so be it. Users have trouble with spirituality. Users get negative. if a user steps on your toes he thinks " you deserve it" the spiritual one says, " I am sorry"

In the long run, drugs cost you. get a therapist to learn to open up. Save yourself the cost, see one now rather than later when there is more damage done. love, Leila

You and gypsywolfwoman both say that it's not a true connection to a higher power. That's an interesting point. I do meditation pretty regularly right now. I've heard of kundalini but I've never tried it. Do you do kundalini?

I meant a recreational user of the light stuff like marijuana. I know there is a tradition of drug use for spiritual purposes. You've made some good points. Thanks

In my opinion, that “deeper spiritual connection” you feel while under the influence of any drug – including alcohol – is nothing more than a perceived connection. In other words, it’s not real.
