Interfaith "Blessings"

Hi,
I am a very much interfaith person. I have not been baptized. I am married with one child, and one on the way. My husband and I get repeated questions, mainly from his side of the family, as to if/when we are going to get the children baptized. I am not opposed to a blessing ceremony, but I am uncomfortable with the traditional baptisms. I did a simple preliminary web search on interfaith ceremonies and found things mainly on weddings.
I would not mind an interfaith "family" blessing type ceremony, if one exists. There is a Unity Church near us, which my husband and I attended pretty regularly, until our first born got old enough to get disruptive (she's two), and we decided not to attempt to regularly attend church until our children are old enough to appreciate it and attend the Sunday School classes (we are not big proponents of church "childcares"). When we did attend the Unity Church, we asked the minister about an interfaith type baptism. I don't remember exactly what she said (this was when I was still pregnant with my first), but for some reason, we were not gung ho about it. There is another minister there now, and I am considering asking her, to see if I feel differently. In the mean time, any suggestions or any resources (books, websites, etc.)that anyone can suggest would be greatly appreciated. By the way, my aim is not necessarily to exclude Christianity, as it is to be all inclusive. To me Baptism is, promising to only adhere to the traditional Christian faith. I don't believe in making promises for myself, or my children, that I/we may not keep. I believe that the search for spiritual fulfillment and truth go beyond any one faith.

ginger,

Thanks for reading and responding to my post so soon. I will look into the Dedication ceremony and all it entails. Sounds like a start. The Unity Church is Christian based, like the dedication ceremony you describe, but celebrates other faiths. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Hello. :)

You might try the UU church as well, that is accepting of all faiths and none at all (Athiests). Here's their national web site:

http://www.uua.org/newcomers/index.html

On that web site is a search program for UU churches in your area.

Hope that helps! :)
