Thanks to everyone for the care and concern for me during and following my shoulder surgery. Particulary, I appreciate the roles Gypsy and Ginger Cookie took on to respond to posts when I was not able to. And to cm-Cindi for her help and understanding on this and my other board.
I'm not out of the woods yet and stll have a lot of pain. I had my follow-up appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday, and he had assumed I was taking the entire month of June off work, whereas I had planned to return on the 11th. I was not aware of just how fragile the procedure was, and must be doubly careful from now on about stressing the joint. I am not allowed any lateral extending motion or weight-bearing for another four weeks. It seems the muscle was completely severed from the bone and he had to drill holes and thread the ligaments through, then staple them on the other side. The pain levels are normal for this type of invasive surgery. It surely wears a person down and sometimes I just need to sit and cry for awhile. The Vicodin barely touches it, but coupled with ibuprofen, is bearable.
I have a meeting with my two VP bosses today to lay out my options and what they can expect from me. I'm not worried at all about losing my job (well, maybe a little), but I'm also not sure I can do it to my normal level of perfection for the next several months. Also, our aerospace company was purchased by GE at the beginning of the month and the promised "business as usual" is far from reality! I'm losing ground faster than I would have otherwise plus not meeting the new management at a time when it's important to make yourself visible. I'll let you know what happens...
Thanks again. I'm doing the best I can and appreciate the support.
