I've been hearing a lot lately about 21 Dec 2012 being the end of the Mayan calendar, the end date predicted by the I-Ching, and the day the earth's magnetic fields will dramatically shift.  For centuries, seers and would-be prophets have predicted the end of the world by a certain date, the passing of a comet, or some cataclysmic occurrence.  The tsunami of 2005, the increased hurricane intensity, global warming, greed, war... all become symptoms for some of the decline of humanity and the pending doom.

With the date only five years away, have you given any thought to the validity of this ancient prophesy?

Here's a clarification I found about the Mayan calendar.  I'm not going to publish the link, as it has some very controversial stuff on it, and I didn't want to spark other discussions:

"The Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the future ahead. Our moving through with either resistance or acceptance will determine whether the transition will happen with cataclysmic changes or gradual peace and tranquility. The same theme can be found reflected in the prophecies of many other Native American visionaries from Black Elk to Sun Bear."

So, what do you think? Are we on a worldwide precipice, or is this just hype over nothing?

I hope that the "new world" or whatever it will be will dramatically change society as we know it.

This is something I've read about in several books, publications etc, though I can't say I've given it a great deal of thought.

I can see evidence of changes taking place such as are predicted around relationships ending, catastrophes that are making people question their priorities and leading to
