i'm goin for a tonsillectomy soon and also to take out an adenoid in my nose (so the doctor says)

the surgery is coming soon and i dont wanna be living on adrenaline these few days worrying ...how bad is it gonna hurt? am i gonna freak out in the OT? or maybe i'll freak out in the ward?...

despite knowing that it seems to be a really common procedure.

what can i do to forget about all these and still go for my surgery?

does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi rgds,

I had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was quite young so I don't remember much. I did a search and came up with these links.

Pain & Adult Tonsillectomy:

What to expect after a tonsillectomy:

Laser Tonsillectomy:

Tonsillectomy information:

Adenoid Removal:

I hope these sites give you the information you need. Let us know how your surgery goes.

I had my tonsils out when I was 17. The pain after surgery was like a bad sore throat. It hurt to swallow and you aren't going to feel like talking either! Make sure and stock up on jello and sherbet (it's better than ice cream) beforehand. Also the softest food you can eat the better. It's easier on your throat while you are healing. And don't worry about having stitches removed because they are dissolvable. Please try and relax, too. You don't want to go in for surgery with all kinds of horrible images in your head. You will do okay- really and truly.
