Question about ADs & sedatives
| Sun, 01-02-2005 - 9:12pm |
I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and an appointment with my therapist on Wednesday. I really like them both, so it's not that I'm nervous about the appointments. I'm currently taking 30 mg of Prozac daily, and while Prozac does work for me, I feel as though I need something more. I'm wondering if my doctor would prescribe me some kind of sedative that I could take when I'm feeling really bad, which is usually at night. Is this possible? Is anyone else taking an anti-depressant, but also has a prescription for a sedative that they only take when they feel they need it? I suppose that if my doctor doesn't think it's a good idea, I could talk to my therapist about it, and he may be able to convince my doctor that it's something I need.

I would say that it can't hurt to ask! I think it's entirely possible that a doctor might prescribe a medication on a PRN (as needed) basis---but I'm not a doc (obviously--lol) so I'd suggest you talk it over with both your doctor and your therapist to see whether this would be appropriate for you!
