Car accident in a snowstorm

(I also posted this on the job seekers board. It really does feel like one thing after another, sometimes. This is the latest update on my life.)

I got into a car accident last week. I'm OK but the car needs work- I dread the bill. I was on the highway when a big snowstorm hit. I was trying to change lanes when the SUV that had been behind me in the other lane sped up, and blocked me. Well I had to swerve quickly into my lane and my wheels lost traction and my car spun in circles, hit the fence backwards, spun again, and hit my door and then I stopped. None of the other cars behind me or the SUV stopped to see if I was Ok.

I stood on the side of the road trying to stop someone for ten minutes, in the storm, before I gave up. It was hard to get my car out of the snow, but I finally did it and luckily was still able to drive because it was a three hour trip from there to get to my destination. I was crawling in the snow at that point, becuase I was so scared, and everyone was passing me but I was so scared to lose control again. I'm so glad I didn't hit any other cars but it was very scary. The car was totally out of control, and the only thing I could do was try to hit the guardrail instead of someone else.

And I don't have a cell phone, so I felt so alone. I was in shock for the first hour but after that the numbness wore off and my whole body hurt, but nothing serious.

I was very upset at the driver of the SUV, because I had plenty of room to pass and put on my turn signal well ahead of time. The SUV only sped up after I had started changing lanes! At that point if I didn't swerve I would have hit them, but it sent my car out of control. I hope getting one car ahead was worth it to them.

Where are the police when you need them? I wish a witness had stopped because now, I have to pay for the damage to my car myself and it's the last thing I expected to budget for. My door is damaged, and the rear bumper, and the side of the car.

(((Blue)))

Sorry to hear of the accident but glad you are okay. I wish there was some way you didn't have to pay for the repairs yourself.

Thank you Lori and Schitz.

Lori, this happened on the highway more than an hour from my home so the odds are all the witnesses live in different areas. The SUV is going to get away with it, unfortunately.

"Either way, hope this hasn't deterred your driving!"

This happened on the way to visit my grandma. I decided I was too far from home so I might as well keep going and still visit her. But that meant I had to do the three hour return drive by myself a few days later. I was so scared! For the first hour, I kept feeling like the car was going to go out of control again and I had a flashback of the accident. I was crying, but being alone with no one to "save" me I had no choice and had to keep going. So I did it. However I wish I could have a chauffer because I hate driving! It's so dangerous.

On the way home I noticed the highway near my accident also had a bridge, a tunnel, and areas with a concrete wall instead of the guardrail that I crashed into. So considering that, I crashed at the "safest" spot possible. I'm very glad it didn't happen on the bridge or in the tunnel, that would have been horrible. I almost wonder if an angel was protecting me that it happened where it did.
