Would you believe this, I just got a phone call for another interview for Monday! My god. This one is temp to hire, 30 minute commute, data specialist, full time, $10-12/hour.
Job number two (the tuesday interview) is a 5 minute commute, direct hire, Computer/data entry work, full time and I don't know the pay but it could be more.
And potential job number three is the 25 hours a week admin and library job, 30 min commute, about $13/hour, and the closing date for applications for that one is today so I hope I hear from them soon but for all I know, they could take weeks to call me for an itnerview. Which is ironic because I am curious to interview there.
Rabbitmarie, I'm curious about what your job is? It's awesome that you are doing so great there for ten years after a rough start.
This is my biggest worry: my health problems. I have problems with my eyes, sometimes they get so dry and painful that I literally can't keep them open. Eyedrops don't help. It happens when I'm in a drafty area, especially from high air conditioning or heat (in winter) blowing in my face. I am worried this would flare up and obviously, I can't work with my eyes closed. This has been happening for years. It started when I lived in a moldy apartment and had severe reaction to it. I went to so many eye doctors and they didn't know what to tell me- they didn't seem to believe how painful it was, or they said they couldn't do anything except give me eye drops. For this reason I am very scared of going into new environments because I am afraid of anohter flare up, and companies always seem to have really high AC or heat for some reason.
Also, I am worried that if I do data entry for 40 hours per week I'll get carpal tunnel syndrome or joint problems in my hands, sicne my fingers have a chronic pain issue that flares up occasionally.
I guess it would be better for me to work 25 hours per week but who can afford that? I wish I had a more obvious or "famous" health problem, so people would take it serioulsy and make accomodations. But they won't do that for mysterious eye pain, they'll just hire someone else.
Yesterday was a very bad day for my eyes. It hurt so bad and I am so sick of this, I can't even see like normal people, and I'm really reaching the end of my endurance.

Hey Blue,
Lori,
I didn't know that! Do you mean you were working two jobs at once? How many hours did you work? (If it's not too nosey.) What type of things did you do as a respite care worker?
I am going on both interviews, it's the having a new full time job part that worries me. OK the interviews scare me too but they're just the beginning!
Hi Blue,
Bluerains,
I have a couple of separate thought for you to consider.
1) It's normal to be nervous about an interview. But don't get too stressed about it. If you aren't working now, and you take a job and hate it or even in the unlikely event they let you go, what's the worst that can happen? You've got three interviews! That's terrrific! So don't be so worried that you have to get this decision absolutely right.
These may not be the jobs you get and you may find one while working at one of these jobs that you decide to try for. Think of these interviews as practice for when the time comes for your dream job. Heck, if you are worried about the 40hr thing, go for it anyway and if it doesn't work at THAT job, then you've got some practice under your belt at that too. See these as the opportunities that they are and not as the final stop on your career path. If they work out great and you're happy there, excellent! If not, then you got some practice in for when something you really want comes along. This isn't a life and death decision that you have to live with the rest of your life. Its just a little stop on the journey and if you don't like this one there are a whole lot more down the line.
2) about your dry eye problem. Most people think that tears come out of your tear ducts when in fact, you tear ducts are the drain for the excess moisture from your eyes. I was having this problem and my eye doctor told me they can put temporary little plugs in your tear ducts (and assured me it was not a big deal and sounds way worse than it is) that keep the moisture from leaving your eyes. They may also be able to recommend a better over the counter or prescribe some drops that will be much more effective for your dry eye problem. If you haven't, I would definately go see an eye care professional. I ended up having an easily correctable condition and had to use moisture drops for a while in addition to some medicine drops and have no problems now.
PS-my job is in accounting. I had no training or experience in accounting and told them that at the interview. I still have no idea why they hired me.
Wow Lori,
You have done amazing things. When did you sleep? It sounds like you did not sleep! It's pretty impressive that you were able to work two jobs at once. I bet you were great at the respite care job too. Thanks for explaining it. It's good to know those places exist.
Leftovergirl,
Thank you for the advice. It's good advice and I will try to take it. You help put things in perspective.
Accounting sounds like a hard job. I always see a lot of job ads for bookkeepers, accounting, etc. so you are in a great field. I can see that would have taken awhile to learn, it's impressive that you could learn it on the job.
Update:
I got two more messages today about possible interviews! I have to call them tomarrow. I did OK on the interview today but don't think I want the job because my desk would be right next to a really loud warehouse/machine area. The machines are loud.
I am pretty overwhelmed by all these interviews. To top it off, I'm working extra hours this week. (Two extra days.) I was planning to go to the zoo on Thursday as a reward to myself, and I was getting really excited, when I remembered I have to work Thursday and it's supposed to have the best weather of the whole week! Arg.
Hi Blue,
One is for a receptionist job, and the other is supposedly an administrative job. I say supposedly because it's from an agency and a lot of times they post fake job ads to get you to apply so they can fill their quota of resumes.
I have not heard from the library job yet. At the rate it's going, that's good becasue I'm overwhelmed already. I do expect to hear from them though. I'm qualified for the job and have library experience.
I really wanted to go to the zoo. It's supposed to be hot and raining every day but Thursday though. I'm working Thurs. becuase my co-worker asked me to cover her hours as a favor. I didn't expect it to ruin my plans though! But I won't back out becuase I already told her I would do it.
Awww, Blue.... how sweet of you to cover your co-worker even though you would have had that day off! What a sweet and thoughtful thing to do!
