Hi All,
Just a very quick update on my surgery before heading back to rest! The surgery itself went well--it was moved up a bit and so I was in surgery around 2 and in recovery I woke up at 4:30! Surprisingly, aside from a sore throat from the breathing tube I felt fairly good but then again, they had pain medication in my IV so that helped--lol! I drank a bit of water and had a piece of a popsicle for my throat as I was brought back to my room. My mom was very surprised I was totally coherent, not asleep, and feeling fairly decent since our family tends to have a hard time coming out of anesthesia!
I even commented to the nurse "I can see why some people leave the same day of surgery" and she asked "You feel THAT good?" I said, "Yes, actually I'm feeling fairly good right now!" She asked if I wanted to stay or go home and she offered to call and get me discharged if I wanted. I said yes. THAT was a MISTAKE!!! What I didn't stop to think about was that the pain med I'd been given in my IV had taken a big edge off the pain and also, I didn't stop to think about how much easier it is maneuvering in and out of a hospital bed where you can elevate your head or legs compared to a regular bed at home!
I got home around 8:30 last night and initially, still thought I'd made a good decision. In fact, I stood there and cooked some mac and cheese --only to realize I didn't feel up to eating much but a bite or two. I was able to climb the stairs to my 2nd floor apartment, cook, then I took a pain med and went to bed. But that was when the pain began really kicking in.... I think I pushed it a bit! I was up every 3 hours or so when the med would begin to wear off. And even though they said I could take 1 or 2 every 4 to 6 hours, I've been taking just 1 every 4 hours. I think tonite I'm going to take two and try and get some decent rest!!
So...I'm not officially "back" yet--but I did want to let you all know that I am okay and back home! Hugs, Lori

Hi Lori,
Thanks for the update. I'm sorry you came home too early but just rest now and I'm sure you'll be feel better within a few days.
And hopefully this time even if you start to feel better, keep taking it easy so you don't try to do too much at once.
It's awful to be in pain but this won't last forever! And when it goes away you won't have to deal with painful gall bladder attacks anymore.
Take your pain meds on time. don't let them wear off. If you are still in pain take the two fo them. you don't have to take two everytime you can take 1 one time and two the next just judge how your body is feeling and go from there.
I'm glad the surgery came out ok and i hope you bounce back quickly.

It is good that the operation was a success at any rate. May I congratulate you on your recovery.
It's been a while since I was at a hospital now I come to think of it. I used to visit the hospitals in my area all the time, but now I haven't been to one for 8 months. It is understandable that they are discomforting environments for some, but now I think of the setting as somehow reassuring.
