Weird Question, possible trigs

I was wondering about this. I don't know how normal it is for these thoughts to be in my head, or maybe you or a friend, or someone has confided to you that they have thought this. I want you to know straight off, I am NOT suicidal, but am questioning if these thoughts are normal. I have thought these thoughts when I have been driving, or my friends/family have been driving, but what if I just opened the car door and jumped out? I know deep in my heart I wouldn't consider doing it, but I have these "visions" of sort of doing it. I've also had thoughts of just swerving into oncoming traffic too. Like I said, I wouldn't do it, but I always have these "what if" visions/thoughts.
Can anyone else relate? Am I alone? Do I need serious help? I don't know...I just was more curious more than anything to see if I was normal.

Hi! Welcome to our caring community!
I am sorry to hear about what you are experiencing. We are not professionals & cannot make a diagnosis. The best thing for you to do is talk to your dr. or therapist about this issue. That being said, I suffer from panic attacks & OCD. Many folks have reported these sorts of thoughts on the OCD board, as well as the anxiety board which I co-cl. I have had the thoughts, too. Sometimes they are referred to as *intrusive* thoughts. They are NOT acted upon. They are not deep, dark death wishes, but misfirings in the brain. However, when they pop into our head's, they trigger fear & anxiety. Noone has ever been diagnosed as crazy because of them. They are part & parcel of a chemical imbalance in the brain & from my reading, antidepressants & therapy in combination have proved to be successful. In my case, that is certainly true.
I will not go into my thoughts specifically, because they are triggering for others. You would be more than welcome to post to the OCD or anxiety board. Please keep in touch. Everyone on this board cares for you & wants you to live the life you deserve. That is possible. GL & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
Hey there vwtrixie and welcome to the board! As Jan said, we can't diagnose ....but we CAN and DO offer support and so I'm glad you stopped by with your concerns!
I think "normal" falls along a continuum and a lot depends on the individual and their life experiences. For instance, someone with a substance abuse problem may never be able to see a bar without craving alcohol--that would be "normal" for them and perhaps problematic for a business woman who sometimes met clients at a bar
