How should I deal with this:

I recently landed a job as an HR assistant 3 months ago. One of the things I do is enter all the certifications people earn on different machines in the company. Well I followed my notes I took when I was trained. Oh I should mention that this was the first time I entered these in the computer since being trained on how to do them. I was trained 2 months ago.

Anyho I was suppose to enter the date the certifications would expire which would be 3 years from the date earned. ie: 6-30-2010. but I put in 6-30-07. Because the directions on my notes said, " enter the new cert date listed on the paper".

Now remember this was my first time entering this since I was trained. Well my manager said that if I make anymore errors I will be ask to leave!

I know HR is an important postion but I could see if I made the same mistake repeatedly but this was the first time I made it.

How should I handle this?

I guess I don't understand your question. This is an important job. You must follow instructions to the letter. You messed up, but now have the correct info & won't make the mistake again. Since there apparently isn't any room for repeated errors, you have been informed of same. What would you like help with? I admit to being a bit dense @ times, so please follow-up when you can. GL! See the issue is that this was the first time I made this error and they are treating it as a life or death mistake. I did not know I made a mistake and now that I know I have I will not do it again.

I doubt you are going to be able to change your employer's posistion on this. Personally, I wouldn't even try.

You have all the info @ hand to do a good job. I feel you will be successful in not repeating this mistake. In time you will feel more @ ease & less apt to worry over making another mistake. I wish you the best of luck! (((hugs))) jan

well I was just offered a job making $2.00 more an hour than I currently am making. I am just scared of taking a risk however I am not happy at the current job and I know that I don't have much to loose. I just feel so unsettled down.

You are right. It might be the best thing for me. I just hate all the failures I have been through in the last 9 months. I want a career that is rewarding to me. One that I am proud to work at.
The only bad thing about this new job is that it is a temp job that will last 4-6 months. So having no job once it is over is scaring me but who know maybe the company will hire me on in another dept since this one that I am hired for is being outsourced.

DH has said the current job is emotionally wearing on me. To the point I am afraid to make a mistake and thus triple check my work which slows me down a bit. Oh my boss yelled at me and told me not to come to work so early! Yes early. I am suppose to start at 8:30 but I get there at 8:00 I read the paper, write checks to pay bills or stop at the cafeteria for breakfast. I was told not to enter the building until 8:15!

I just had high hopes that this career was my savior from the old one. Now it is almost as bad as the old one.

SO please keep sending encouraging words my way! the weekend will be a long one with me thinking about this all weekend.

AWESOME! This is wonderful news & exactly @ a time when you really needed it. I'm not going to tell you what to do about the job, though I will say that I am leaning towards Lori;) You need to make this decision on your own & take responsibility for it.

What I will say is that to keep your spirits up, you should look @ this offer in a positive light. They want you. They feel you're qualified for this job. It is a significant pay raise, so they feel you're worth it. When the dark

Yes you are right they want me. I must has scored well on the office skills test otherwise they would not have called me. It is at least a pay raise. I don't have to travel the busy 2 lane highway where there is a fatal or near fatal accident weekly! As a matter of fact there was a fatal one last Sat on that road.

What bothers me most is that this is a temp job. However the company personal that I interview said that there is always the possibility of a perm position in another dept. Since this one is being outsourced.

At least I am quiting one job only to start another one right away. Darn I was hoping for a week off. Oh well at least I don't start till Tues. so I can have a long weekend.
