Children's book recommendation

I'd like to share this wonderful (IMHO) children's book with everyone.  It's called Souperchicken, by Mary Jane Auch.  Published by Holiday House (2003).  The librarian at our public library read it to a class of 2nd graders from my school.  The kids really loved it.  It's about a chicken that can read, that notices that her aunties are being taken to a soup company instead of on a vacation after they can no longer produce enough eggs.  At the end, they found their freedom with a vegetarian farmer.  For those of you who are raising your children on a veg diet, I think your kids would enjoy this book.

One of my second graders recognized the similarities between the veg farmer and me.  He always sticks up for me when the other students make fun of my lunches.  After hearing this story, he peeked across the room at me and smiled.  It was so cute!

I think that would be a particularly good book to help explain to other kids why your family doesn't eat meat. Along with those two movies- the one from Disney where they're trying to save the farm and the one where the chinkens aare trying to not get eaten... Why can't I remember their names? Home on the Range and Chicken Run, maybe? Charlotte's Web of course is also great!

Hey Thisby...

Chris and I got engaged on November 17, 2004. On December 7th I got my ring, and he got down on one knee officially ;-).

We are set to tie the knot on December 31, 2005. Time is flying already.

Sorry, I`m gonna continue to run with the off topic :)

That`s such a great website, Alison. Very cool idea! It`s hard for me to think that you`re the same age as I am and already making plans to be hitched (I`ll be 19 March 14th). :) My boyfriend and I intend to tie the knot eventually but we`ve decided

Lena,

Thanks for the compliments on the site. I love it too :-).

You are actually older than me. ;-) I won't be 19 until this summer. When did you and your bf start going out? Chris and I are going on two years as well.

I will keep you posted, so that you can live through me. ;-) Good luck with the long distance thing. Chris is coming to help me and my dad and brother move this weekend. It will be good to see him.

Big hugs!

My guy is a Chris, too. :) We started dating on April 18th of 2003.

The long distance thing is hard but we`ve always been pretty long distance. When we first started dating, he lived 45 minutes away from me. We met through a college prep program. Bunch of geeks, huh? lol
