A question regarding protein

Hi All!

Newbie on the board:) I have been an on and off again vegetarian for most of my life. I am returning, or I should say returned, to this diet. My biggest problem...is getting in my protein. I think it is part of the reason I go back to meat or dairy. I have recently found that any dairy bothers me...although I have never been a big dairy person...kind of makes me sick. Anyways...I was wondering how all of you get the majority of your protein...what foods? Is there something that you could suggest for those days I have trouble consuming enough protein? Kind of a quick fix...lol. I am still easing myself into cooking more...it is a struggle. I am a huge fruit and veggie eater. How do you feel about some of the veggie protein powders?

Thanks:)

I have a serving of cheese with my lunch and added an 8 oz glass of whole milk when I was having trouble keeping my weight in line (various health issues make it hard for me to keep it high enough), but there are plenty of non-dairy options.

There are fake meats, made of soy. I thought the "pepperoni" we put on a pizza some time ago was close to the real thing- so close in fact that I couldn't convince my brain that it wasn't real and I couldn't eat it. There are lunch meats, too, and soy cheeses that are lactose free (assuming that's what's bothering your belly) and taste

Hi Emily:)

Thanks for your input. I love the organic peanut butter. I just can't eat much...upsets my stomach. I have also had a hard time with some of the fake meats. The textures are too close. Guess they did what they set out to do...lol. I do eat veggie burgers...just no bread with it. I am going to experiment around...going shopping tomorrow. I have to work on adding a little more variety to it. I am a pretty basic fruit and veggie gal. Not much on seasoning. I do like some of the tofu cheeses. The texture of real dairy doesn't bother me...except milk...yuck.

Hey Emily:)

I apologize for bringing the ED up. I forget sometimes that it may be a tough subject and too personal. Sorry. Email me if you ever want to chat about it too...I completely understand:)

Off to finish my grocery list. Health food store run...
