Hi everyone! Everyone (that means everyone...lurkers and regualrs! LOL) pleace tell us alittle about yourself...How long have you been a vegetarian? What brought you to this board? Ect...whatever youd like to tell us = )
Hi! I'm Kirsten, I'm 32 and have been vegetarian for 32 years. My mom was vegetarian since she was a teenager and raised her kids veggie, too. My husband is also a lifelong vegetarian and so are all his sibs. He was raised lacto-, so I gave up eggs before marrying him. Now, we are loving the Eat to Life eating plan, so we are nearly vegan--well, at least we have cut out dairy from our daily diet and are eating primarily veggies, fruits and legumes. We're vegetarian for many reasons, and have recently changed our diets for health reasons (I now weigh what I did at 14/15, after YEARS of being borderline-overweight thanks to my love of cheese & pasta!). We believe in karma, so spiritual reasons are a biggie, but that involves animal treatment, ethics, environmental impact, sustainability, personal health and more things I'm not thinking of. At any rate, it's all I've ever known and all I can imagine doing and is a HUGE, defining part of myself, and my family.
We have three lovely (and maddening!) little boys, the eldest is two and of course vegetarian. I've been letting him have dairy still, but hope to move away from the Annie's Mac&Cheese before too long ... :) The younger two are 6 months and still BF. They JUST started eating this week (had yams today) and will be trying new veggies and fruits as time goes on.
OK. So, I read a lot but don't post much since I tend to have to type one-handed. I'm new here, but look forward to a nice community of fellow veggies!
Your other friendly neighborhood CL here, Jaseann. (from time to time when someone looks askance at the strange combo of food on my plate at a buffet I smile and say "I'm your friendly neighborhood vegetarian with food allergies", which gets the message across without a hassle)
I ate as little meat as I could get away with as a child, had a truce in my teens in that Mom would cook two, say, chicken pieces and Mom would give me a fourth or so of one and eat the rest herself (today she eats a bit of any meat Dad makes, which only happens once or twice a week, though he gets a hamburger or something for lunch a few times a week). I am technically lacto-ovo, from the day Dad dropped me off at college. I came back to attend a university closer to home a year later but, seven years after that I am still a vegetarian. I do eat cheese and drink one glass of milk a day (Mom was diagnosed with osteoperosis a few days ago due to a decade in a wheelchair and I have a condition- celiac disease-
hello, i just found this board (geez, i didn't even know ivillage had a veggie board). i'm a vegan, not for too long though, just started out really...but i'm doing OK, except for that lack o' willpower that had something to do with a skor bar *blush* LOL.
i'll be lurking mainly, mayhaps i'll post a bit here and there...i'm more accustomed to debating so the other baords i just look at, i don't want to get anyone mad LOL.
oops, forgot to add taht i'll be raising my DD vegan, or at least vegetarian, and my DH is vegan too (thats ijutjut)

I love a good discussion (Dad and I will be debating something and having fun and Mom, whose lived with this quite a while- I'm 26 and have lived here all but one year of my life (health issues)- still gets upset because to her, we're fighting. Dad enjoyed watching me learn to use my brain and think about issues in my early years and we both just like having a real discussion with another person who thinks). As long as you don't abuse someone personally, or do the "my way is right and the rest of you are idiots and I'm going to post my argument constantly without paying attention to other's circumstances or arguements" things (I'm sure you've met a few of those people) go ahead!

nice to "meet" ya ;) i try hard not to debate on the disscusion boards just because thats not what they're for really. but my family is the exact same way as yours...except its my step dad that always thinks we're arguing LOL. i love it, what can i say...its like playing verbal chess ;)
i'm hoping to have more of a soundingboard, venting board, idea board from here....i can defenitly use one LOL!

Nice to see another new face around here :)
Jumping in late, but welcome, monarchangel!
