Hi everyone,
BF and I have been talking about his stomach problems and how fed up he is of feeling sick all the time.
He has been to the doctor throughout his life on many occasions but with nothing to give him any relief.
I think that he probably has leaky gut syndrome with celiacs disease too!
We have decided to try a raw food diet...
I know it sounds pretty drastic but we are vegetarian already.....although I think we should be called "Starchitarians" !LOL!
I'm going to do a lot of research over the next few weeks and I'll let you all know what I learn about this way of eating.
I want to make sure that we are prepared for all this and in the meantime I'll use up what we have already in the cupboard and freezer.
I don't know how frugal it will be ...I'm thinking that we wont have as nuch waste and will buy more often as these fresh foods are more perishable...it'll probably work out to be the same amount per week that we spend now.
Over the years I've done alot of dietary experiments myself but I've never had anyone join me......so I'm really excited.....and he decided all on his own to try this when he saw I was looking at this and researching it.

Hello
Hey Nathalie!
I don't know how I missed this. I have celiacs!
The main thing is- no wheat, barley, or rye, modified food starch (unless it's a Kraft product they would put derived from wheat if that's the case) or dextrin (ironically maltodextrin is okay- it's dextrin derived from corn. Malt, like in the drinks, is from wheat)
Not even a bit of it. Every exposure causes a celiac to have damage to their intestines, even if we don't feel sick from small amounts. I'll feel tired and foggy the day or two after I eat something contaminated. And continued exposures lead to an increased chance of colon cancer, other autoimmune disorders like lupus, and problems from malnutrition like osteoporosis.
Come visit me on the Celiac's site (I'll get the addy later- my papers are in a mess right now) and we can give you a ton of info and help.
I don't know much about Raw Foods. There are GF (gluten free) breads, pastas, cake mixes, and just about anything you could hope for. It can take some looking to find the right one for you (I can't
Hi Jaseann,
I'm glad you posted a reply :)
I'll definitely check out your other board and I do have some specific questions so I'll email you later in the week.
I have a bit of a crazy work/family schedule the next 2 days so I won't be home much.
We have been doing this raw food diet (eating cooked food only for dinner) for a week now.
BF has had a few situations where he did eat some wheat..last Tuesday he ate a sandwich and Thursday he ate a giant waffle!!Bah! but despite that he has been feeling better.
Even though he has not said anything, I can tell just by his general mood and energy levels that things are improving. he likes bread so i did find some gluten-free bread in the freezer section at my local grocer so he will eat that once in a while. I even found GF soy sauce!
I feel absolutely fantastic!! I love eating all the fresh fruit in the morning a banana or two as a snack...huge salad for lunch and baked potatoes, yams, brown rice with stir fried veggies for dinner.
I totally agree with you about the rice noodles and tomato sauce...Yuck!
I haven't experimented with GF noodles yet, but we will.
I have to head off to work now so I'll talk to you later ;)
Thanks!'
Nathalie
