I'm sure that someone on here has asked you this before/

For me I read an interview in a magazine about Moby. He mentioned in the interview that he was a vegan. He said that it didn't make sense to him when people ate a pig, but they didn't eat thier dog. The article just spoke to me and it all made sense. Instantly after reading that I gave up meat. It took years to stop the other animal products. I am going on almost 6 years on being a vegetarian!

Now let us know why you went veg!

I've been veg for about 7 years, since I was 19. I was in a college class visiting several communities (Amish, a monestary, various communes) and many were vegetarian. This was really amazing to me, as I'd never thought about not eating meat before, even though I didn't enjoy it. I remember as a kid, once, really upsetting my mom by insulting her pork chops. (She's a great cook - I just hated the feel of the meat on my teeth.)

Now, I'm a strict vegetarian. Even though I use soy milk on cereal, I'm not quite vegan. (I find the kinds on the shelf, like WestSoy or Whole Food's house brand, less expensive than the over-sweetened milk-replacement comeptition stuff like Silk or 8th Continent.) I like my yogurt and occasional cheese. I always enjoy veg meals at home, but I get annoyed when I go to a chain restaurant and my only choice is a pasta dish or veggie burger. I do love ethnic restaurants where I can try out new meatless dishes.

I became a vegetarian (although I do still eat seafood) in August 2004.

I'm not solely vegetarian. I just refuse to eat red meat or pork. I cook it for the DH and DS, but younger DD and I don't eat it. She has never liked it. I read they pump the package up with carbon monoxide to keep the beef red. That confirmed for me that I didn't want it. I was getting tired of it. It was boring. It never, ever tasted that good to me. Even when I was younger I'd go for the veggies and bypass the meat most times. I eat seafood (except catfish) and occasionally I'll eat chicken, but even chicken is a rarity. I always have an over-abundance of vegetable dishes on the stove for DD and me and I'll take few extra minutes for the boys and fix them their meat. It kills me to go visit DH's family in Alabama. All they eat is ham and burgers and they don't believe in romaine, but iceberg.

Nice to be here.

I guess I'm not technically a vegetarian because I eat Salmon on occasion but that's it for flesh for me. (I mostly eat the salmon to keep my DH off my back. He thinks it's VERY unhealthy to not eat meat! Sheesh!)

I've never liked meat, my parents had to force me when I was a kid. I ate meat on and off until about 10 years ago and I thought "why am I tormenting myself? I hate this stuff" so I just stopped. I get a lot of grief from my friends and family but I don't care. I don't talk about it or make a big deal but it's a big deal to them. Anyone else have family that give you grief?

Well, I guess my diet choices were gradual. I stopped drinking soda in 2000 or 2001. I cut off dark sodas and then light sodas.

My move into vegetarianism was just this year (2006). I stopped eating beef and pork in January. I went to a vegetarian festival in July and then cut out chicken and fish right after that.

My main reasons were for my health, I think. I've drank soda on rare occassions, mostly when there wasn't anything else to drink.

As for meat, I loved a good steak a year ago. Then I got sick of getting it caught in my teeth. I also didn't like all the hormones that were put into beef. Then I started to think about how the animals suffered to be my next meal.

My reasons for going vegetarian vary between health and not wanting to eat animals. The thing is, I think I'm about as healthy as I was before I stopped eating meat. I eat a lot of junk food. I also skip breakfast and don't eat as well as I should. It's an on-going process, but I'm trying to eat a more healthy diet.

I think looking at it as a process is the best thing people can do. I continue to slowly move towards veganism, since October a year ago. Other than finances keeping it slow, the other thing has been for me to learn how to eat a healthy vegan diet. I was vegetarian as
