As the seasons start to change do you start to crave different foods?

What are your favorite Fall foods?

***************************************************************************

As the seasons start to change do you start to crave different foods? I really crave seasonal foods. I'm like that at the beginning of each season. I notice that as I near the end of a season my tastebuds really start craving the veggies of the next season!

What are your favorite Fall foods? I love SOUP in the Fall. Tonight I made a really yummy Winter Vegetable Chowder (recipe is in Vegan Family Favorites). I was in HEAVEN. I'll be making some spinach soup later this week. In the winter I always crave squash stuff.

Yes, I crave different foods with the change of seasons. This time of the year I start craving hearty soups and vegie chili. I'm always looking for new soup recipes. The good thing is my dh and dd love to try the different soups and they usually like them, lol. I also crave squash. I love squash. I also love to roast root vegies and toss them with pasta or just eat them plain. Sweet potatoes too! I'm getting hungry....

I love Butternut Squash Soup. I tried the new Campbells Select (In the box) Butternut Squash Soup and it's GREAT. It's also pricy, so I'm going to try this recipe and see how it goes. Here's the link:

In the fall, I usually start craving comfort foods. I make vegetable soup a lot. I'm trying to find a macaroni and soy-cheese recipe that hits the spot because I love that and am trying to do away with cheese. I bought Amy's (I usually try a prepared version first, then try to copy it) but haven't had a chance to try it.

PEACE ALSO TAKES COURAGE

Thanks for starting this thread Viriginia! Eating can be so seasonal, especially if we're avoiding too much canned, frozen, or imported food.

I love veggie chilli too. I have to see if I can get my dad to make some of his veggie chilli. He uses bulgar wheat & cucubmers in it. yum :) and he started making it before I even became vegetarian lol

That soup looks great. Any idea, how big a butternut squash would you want for that recipe?

thanks :) that sounds great

a question tho, why would there be a need for vegan margarine? I thought margarine is normally made with vegetable oil.

Margarine is made from oil, but almost all of it contains milk too. I just looked at an old container of Smart Balance and it contains Whey (from milk). Almost all of them do. It's hard because my son is allergic to it and it's hidden in EVERYTHING!

good point about the whey. I wonder why it's put in so many things. Just checked on the soft spread we have has whey in it, but with no one in the family being allergic to dairy, we get the cheapest spread that Walmart carries. Do you know if you can make margarine at home? I'm feeling a google search after the depression seminar lol

"I have yet to figure out which nondairy milk I most prefer for cream soups."

I read that and then happened upon this website...the coincidence brought me out of lurking. :)

Hope there's something in here that helps.
