How important were animal rights in your decision to go vegetarian?

That was (and continues to be) the top and only reason for my going vegetarian more than 30 years ago. However, health was the reason I eventually went vegan.

When I was a vegetarian it was mainly because I couldn't eat meat. The smell of raw meat made me sick.

I'm not a vegetarian, but have several friends who are.

I'm not an 'animal rights' at all cost person.

I'm not vegetarian, but my daughter is, and the animal welfare issue was by far the No. 1 factor in her making that choice. And though I do eat meat and poultry, I get it from local sources where I know the animals were raised in humane conditions.

Animal rights did not factor in whatsoever in my decision to eat plant based (no meat/no dairy).

I can't really say I had one reason more important than another, but animal rights were definitely in there.

I turned veg overnight when I learned about how they treated chickens.

It's good you learned to cook. I also had to teach myself a lot about cooking as a young wife and mother; my mom hadn't taught me much more than how to order out. Of course now, in my household including two vegans, an "accidental vegan," and a steak-lover/veggie-hater, I get plenty of chances to do all sorts of cooking.
