I've been called for Jury selection process;

started this morning and continues tomorrow

morn; some kind of technical hold up.

Greg and I served last year for a week on a domestic

case, each; this one is too. My daughter

served the other year on a murder case.

Have any of you actually performed jury duty

and what was it like for you?

love,

Cindy

Cindy,

I've been called several times, but only actually selected and served once!! I found it very interesting and would certainly be willing to do it again. I am usually "let go" once they know or find out that dh is a lawyer and/or if I know anyone serving as attorneys etc, etc.!! In the one case I was allowed to serve, I did know both attorneys and the judge, but they asked "can you be impartial?" and I said sure! Just because I know the lawyers doesn't mean I can't be fair!!! I suppose someone might have a problem there though. Dh handles some very interesting cases. 90% of his work is defense work in medical malpractice cases......not the lucrative side of the issue mind you, but interesting none the less! Do you like serving on a jury? One thing you learn fast is that the justice system is S L O W !!

Cindy good question there! I have never been called for jury duty, and I have to say I am very glad for that! I would not want to be on the selection list, but would love to sit in and watch a trial going on.

Let us know if you get picked again this time!

hugs, Lor

Yes, I sat on jury years ago in a civil siut. A man claimed he tripped over a raised screw in a mteal plate on the floor. The jury was herded by bus to the accident site. This man had to be out for money because there was no way what he said happened could have. He claimed he tripped, did a summer sault in the air and came down half way down the door. I don't know about you but when I trip I fall forward not flip through the air. He claimed he severly injured his vertebrea but the ex-rays clearly showed advanced disintegration of the disks. By the end of the second day I was sitting there glaring at the man and sighed in disgust once. The next morning we were told the case settled out of court. As I made my way to the elevator the lawyers yelled for me to stop. The asked me how I would have voted. I told them the man was a liar and was trying to rip off the company and he should pay the jury damages for making us sit through such nonesense. I asked the lawyers if I could tell the jerk just what I thougth of him but they said no. The defense attorney looked very relieved. I would have nailed his tail to the wall.

Another case was a young kid claiming the police planted drugs on him. The judge questioned us and when he got to me I told him I felt the kid was guilty. The judge asked me if I couldn't put my feelings aside and make a judgement just on the facts. I told him none of the police in my area know any of my kids names and I would never dream of police planting drugs on them so if this kid was so innocent they wouldn't have planted drugs on him either. My verdict, guilty. I was dismissed.

I've gotten lots of summons but never had to even show up...call a number and things have always been cancelled. Now that I've said that it'll probably happen next time! Hope it's interesting if you get chosen. Hugs
