I'm back...we went to DC

Left here Easter Sunday and had dinner with Bob's dd and sil...stayed overnight...left for MD Mon morning..only problem..I woke up Sun with one of my migraines..I kept taking the meds...but it lingered for days..at least it would subside for awhile...but I was SO tired..we stayed in College Park ,MD, walked to the Metro Tues and Wed and took the train into DC those days...lovely area and all was in full bloom, unlike here!! We also saw the U.of MD, very nice campus...and found great restaurants...(if you are near College Park ,MD--remember LUPO's Chophouse...great Italian food)

I called an old friend who moved from here to MD...wanted to take her out to dinner Thurs...of all days...it was the one year anniv. of her husbands death (while on a golf trip to Ireland)..she was getting together with her kids...but we had a great chat on the phone..she is so positive and upbeat...so we came home Thurs..I told my dd I'd call when we changed hotels...so I called from the car while on our street to tell her we would be staying in a "quieter place" that night...she was all set to write it down when I said, "If you're not busy, why don't your come outside and help us empty the car?" She said "Mom,you're crazy!"

while we were gone she "de-snacked" the kitchen, putting all candy, cookies , etc in a box in my car to bring to school to "share". I knew she planned to do this (so we would be "healthier"..but she even got rid of the Nestle Toll house choc. chips!!..her brother called her the "Candy Nazi"!! (he and dil came over last night to show us our new grandkitten "norbert"..cute little orange and white guy)

dd also organized my spice drawer.she also was lonely while we were gone and kept talking to me....

today we took our cats to the vet...one was losing teeth and the other was losing hair (they are both over 10 yrs old)..well, the first one has "gingivitis" and needs to return for a cleaning!,,and the other is "neurotic"...and needs HORMONES...a menopausal cat????..I told dd, you MUST be there when I tell Bob......

he was installing a new outdoor faucet..so I set to cleaning..got on my step ladder to dust high places...put the step ladder a little too far to the right of the stove hood..under the doorway..climbed up and gave myself a good bop on the head...perhaps a message from above to give up cleaning!!

I will have a rude awakening, literally , on Mon when we go back to work!!

Hope this finds you all well..I have to check more posts..hugs, Dutch

PS..when we stopped at the MD Welcome Center to get info and food..we met a former student from here, also traveling south!!

Hugs

PS. I had overlooked the post where you sent boxes to my ds...Sorry and many thanks! I got a letter from him this week. So good to see his familiar handwriting! He's good. Not sure where he is at the moment because the letter was dated 4/9...so just have to wait and see!

Dutch, sounds like a good trip all around except for the migraine. Yuck! And a new grandkitty on your return! Yahoo!! Hey, my older cat, Tony, used to lose hair in one spot on his back, we gave him hormone pills for a while but they were expensive, and now he's fine, no funny looking spot any more. He did need to have his teeth cleaned a few months ago though. Ddog needs it too, just can't afford it right now.

Glad you got home safe and sound, now kick the candy Nazi out and stock back up!! LOL! And the heck with the cobwebs, girl, no more bumps on the head!!

Hugs, Pam

Dutch, sounds like you had a great time. I don't think I want my kitchen desnacked, but you could send you dd here to clean my drawers, lol. I love new kitties, I bet he is so fun. Sorry about your fur babies, menopausal cat??? That is funny, never think of our animals that way, but we all get old, huh? or just better? Have a great Sunday. Charlie

Hey there my cyber-sis, I can't believe you were in my home state and didn't call...lol. I live about an hour and a half to 3 hours from College Park, actually that's traveling time w/traffic, but w/o traffic about an hour. Just to set the record straight, you were close to DC, but not in DC, I don't think. The DC line is not far from the campus. Maryland is referred to as the DC area, why I don't know. It's funny b/c at one time from what I understand, long ago, DC was a part of MD. Then, not too long ago DC wanted to become a part of MD again and MD doesn't want any part of DC, lol.

I used to work on Rt.1, in College Park at a bank there. Might still be there. Bank of America.

So tell me, did you find anything interesting in College Park? Probably not...lol. There are things to do around the university, neat places and I had never heard of the place you mentioned that has great Italian food. There is another place close by where you were called Ledo's. Did you happen to see that? Great Italian food also. Ledo's is the only Italian restrurant that I have found the food to be fantastic. I'm glad you mentioned this other one, but it's so far away from me. I can't find another one to beat Ledo's anywhere I've been in MD.

You were in Prince Georges'County. Did you get to visit Montgomery County? Rockville, Silver Spring? Montgomery County has so many nice parks. MNCPPC parks. But the traffic is hell.

Oh I wish you had traveled more north, towards Frederick to see where I live. Country, the mountains, wide open farmlands, which I hate to say may disappear one day. To relax, I used to drive the back roads from my house just to look at all of the open land. Gives me a feeling of space and freedom. Sound nuts?

Well, I hope you enjoyed your stay, but unless I've missed something...lol, and I guess it's old hat to me b/c I used to live in that area for so long.

I'm intersted to know what you found at the Maryland Welcome Center. Where did you stay? Wow, I sure wish you could have come north. It's beautiful up here.

About your kitties, poor baby having hormone problems, and the other getting teeth cleaning. But I'm glad they are well and I hope you are ok after that bop on the head.

Just wanted to say I'm sorry I didn't know you were going to be in the area, but happy you had a safe trip. Hugs gal, Terry

Hmmm, I didn't realize you lived in MD...yes, I know we stayed in MD, but each day took the Metro into DC....I tried to hook up with an old friend from here who now lives in Annapolis but it was the one yr anniv of her husbands death (at 51)and she was spending it with family...

We liked College Park..liked the restaurants each evening..we really weren't there long and half the time I didn't feel well...Sun-Mon, Tues -Wed I was ok...but I knew he wanted to go away...I managed..we saw museums in DC and the Goddard Space Center in Greenbelt. What we liked was seing all the flowers and trees in bloom.

in 1999 we met someone in Ireland from Md who raises horses..we had horses here until 1997 when dd went to college...

We stayed at a Quality Inn...it was nice...
