my dad's birthday, 91st,. was yesterday, i was sad, as he passed away

last september. i miss him alot, for as a child my dad and i did everything

together...he taught me alot, and made me smile with all the love he gave

me over the years. i really wish he hadnt left us, but he had a full, happy

life, as he cherished each day. when he passed away, and myself and all

my children had to view him at the wake, it was so frightening for none of

us had been to a wake, or funeral, let alone one close to us. all my

kids, wrote a last letter to him., with a picture of them with him, i

too wrote a note, and put a pic with it of me and him when i was little,..

my dad was a hard worker, always was doing something around the house, and

always had a paint brush in his hands.,touching up the barn, or house,..

as a child i use to kid him..'dad i would say when u die, i will bury u

with a paint brush and paint' he would laugh and fully agree yes of course.

so, on the last day we saw him., with the note, and picture i placed a

small container of paint, and placed the brush in his hands., and in the

note i told him every time i saw a 'rainbow' i would think of him.. painting

the sky and heavens above. he was a great dad, and we all miss him

alot... happy birthday dad....

we love u

Ah, Libby...here's a hug. I think some of us just always were and are always gonna be daddy's girls.

I miss my Dad, too, even though it's been since 1995 that he left us. May 1 would have been my parents' 55th anniversary. Father's Day is always tough for me, too. I'll think about him all day.

Sorry you're having a tough time,

Red

My dad died a week before his 90th birthday. On his birthday we bought a cake with "Happy 90th Birthday Dad!" on it to celebrate for him. It would have been okay but my littlest sis came with me to pick it up and of course the girl said something like "He's reached a ripe old age." And my sis who is honest to a fault, couldn't keep her mouth shut. Sorry. But the clerk's smile turning to her "whataretheynuts?" look will always now be a part of my memory of Dad too.lol Dad would have loved it and I know he laughed with us in the car. If any of those freshly painted rainbows look like they are being hung crooked, my dad with the tools we put in his pocket protector will be there right along with your dad. My dad died in '99 and I still hear him in old guy's explanations at the hardware store and when I make the vegetable soup or dressing that he taught me to make not wasting the best part of the celery because the yellow leaves have the most flavor or when I see someone in a workman's jump suit coming out from under a car. For my dad's "real" wake, his children got together and told "John" stories late into the night. I didn't go up to his coffin the next day because I knew in my heart that by then, he was out swapping stories and jokes with his brothers who'd made a place for him and that wasn't really Dad anymore. Hopefully you'll be able to soon rejoice in your memories of him and know he left the best of himself with you. Hugs, BB
