Summer Is Here

Last week, and for two weeks or so before that, it was constantly rainy and cold, but over the weekend summer arrived and the weather is totally gorgeous. I spent the whole day outside working in the garden and getting the patio furniture washed and ready for use. It was a good way for me to spend my day. I wanted to keep extra busy so I wouldn't be sad all the time about Lieben, though I still have my moments.

I don't think I mentioned before that I recently completed a three month training to become a peer telephone crisis line worker for the women's centet. The class was great and I met the most wonderful women there. I already volunteer for the center and I'm getting very involved in fundraising activities which I'm enjoying a lot.

The other thing I don't think I mentioned is that I recently resigned from my volunteer position with the library as a reading and writing tutor. I had been doing it for 4 years and was beginning to feel like I needed a change. The coordinator was sorry to see me go, but understood and told me that I had been tutoring longer than most of the other tutors. That kind of surprised me. He told me that if I ever wanted to come back and eith4r tutor or work in some other capacity at the library I would be welcome. Very kind of him. Then he invited me to the volunteer appreciation dinner later this month, but I decided not to go.

Hope everyone's having a good week.

Janet, glad you're keeping busy. I'm sure you still have your "moments", little Lieben's death is so recent, but I love your idea that she's with her brother and sitting on God's lap being petted. I think God has a special place for the animals, especially the ones who've been such good companions to us humans.

I admire your volunteer work, sounds like a good group of ladies. Can't imagine a better person than you for the job!

Love and hugs!!! Pam

Janet,

The first few days of summer are so refreshing! You will enjoy having your patio all ready to go. My screened porch floor and furniture is still covered with pollen. I usually wait till most of that is gone before I tackle cleaning it and carrying all my plants outside. In another week it should be down some.

As to volunteer work......I'm sure they will miss you at the library, but it can be so easy to "burn out". The 4 years you have given them is a LOT of time!! I know you will be great with the crisis line. You are obviously such a caring and loving person to be willing to give so much of your time to these great causes. The world needs more people like you!!!

Many hugs!

Sooze

Ms Lil, good to see you keeping busy. Your volunteer work sounds very interesting and must bring you a great deal of satisfaction. That means a lot in this day and age. So many non-profits would go under without their valuable volunteers.

I used to do literacy tutoring too, for a second language (ESL)student. I really liked it alot. Learned so much about her culture, too. Very gratifying.

Have a good day...glad to see you feeling better.

Janet,I didn't get a chance to tell you how sorry I was to hear about Leiben, but I'm sure she has a special place with God. Sounds like you're keeping busy, and I love this time of year too, so refreshing. I know what you mean about getting burned out I volunteered at ds's school for the first 6-7 years, didn't do much at all this year, but with him being in 8th grade they don't need alot of help in their classroom, and I decided to take a little free time for me. I'm sure you'll do great in the new position at the crisis center. Charlie

It is definitely warm here compared to last week. We spent Sunday doing the same type of stuff JL. I also got my herb garden planted.

You put me to shame with your volunteer work. I really should be doing some of that. Still unwilling to make the commitment. {Bad Cappy!} But I feel if my heart's not in it I won't be happy and that will show. Guess I still feel I put in plenty "above & beyond" time with the families I worked with thru the agency. Well over the 40 paid hours a week. So I am still enjoying being able to do what I want when I want. I'll probably outgrow that, tho! LOL!

Hugs

Janet you are so lucky to be getting the start of summer there... as I look on our mountain tops I see new snow, not a lot but enough to change the color. Here we have had a weeks worth of sunny/cloudy weather and now the rains are back!

Congrats on the course you finished.. I used to many many years ago volunteer for our crisis center, but when I moved away I gave it up! That is a stressful job at times.

I think that with you being so busy it was probably a good thing to give up the tutoring at least for a while... but it is also nice that they woudl take you back if you wanted.

Have a good day, and so sorry to hear about Lieben!

hugs, Lor
