My Weekend was VERY.....

I can't begin to find a word to describe this weekend...we had to drive 280 miles one way to help our DS move in with us. He injured his shoulder on a catwalk of an oil rig...he keeps dislocating it so the doctor has recommended surgery. He wouldn't have anyone to care for him while he's in recovery where you can't move the shoulder; he also can't work therefore no money.

Friday after DH got off work (which by the way is now a permanent position for him--not more pay but at least benefits :o))we left; got there late. After driving around for about 1/2 hour trying to find his place that we'd been to once for about 5 mins. we showed up on his doorstep to be greeted with "what are you doing here?" ARGH! Not a good sign! We got a motel room & had to try to find a U-Haul truck because there were none within 60 miles of the town. We ended up driving back over a mountain pass for 150 miles to get one! We got the darn thing packed & tried to pick up things that DS had loaned out---we managed to get his dryer but not his tv, steam cleaner or bike.

We drove home on Sun. pm--the stpid truck blew gray-blue smoke most of the way & certainly didn't like the mountain pass we went over! At a potty stop, my DH said "wait a minute" & when I went to check this out (because he never says wait when we're on the road!) they were scrambling to find a screwdriver that would fit in the gear shift on the steering column since the shift had broken off!! We got home early enough to collapse into beds at a decent hour. Monday we unloaded that truck, returned it, got his deposit back & put everything into a storage unit that we're sharing with him. He is turning our garage into his "pad"--so he has some privacy. It's insulated, finished and has a good window. Now we just have to get all his medical in order and get him on unemployment or something. Of course he's bored, bored, bored since he's used to working...but I'm working on that one too!

DS#2 just started his first job as a waiter at a truck stop we frequent. DD#1 is looking fat and sassy--looking forward to Aug and the new baby. DD#2 wants to visit her and just hang out.

It sounds like you all had a terrific time in Vegas! Wish I could have been there instead of our weekend! It would have been so much fun! LOL Reading your messages has been a hoot! Create a geat week! Kathie

OMG, I bet you're glad that weekend is over. Glad you all made it home safely, what an ordeal. So glad your dh has benefits now, that's so important. Good luck to your ds with his shoulder. I wish you could have been with us in Vegas. Next year we are trying for the mid-west, maybe Chicago. Hugs, Gabby

Do the U-Haul trucks still say on their side, "An adventure in moving!"?? When I saw that when we used one last, I told dh that saying that was akin to saying, "Malaria was an adventure in medicine!" lol So not only did ya have a child move back in but you had to do the work to do it! Geeze Louise! Do hope it gets better. My ds broke his collar bone while on a motorbike and it took him forever to get it to heal. Hugs, BB

Geez, what an ordeal, Kathie! You know my DD works for U-Haul. I hope you conveyed all the problems you had with that vehicle. I know she tells me all the time that they give freebie coupons to people who've had bad experiences.

Well my DD works in what is called "traffic" and she gets a lot of calls similar to your situation.

What I would do is go to the phone book and look to see if there is an 1-800 number or a main office number in your area. My DD's office is reached by an 800 number.

The dealers are kind of lower down on the food chain if you know what I mean.
