Ah Gabby have no fear I am still here, and the news is little but it is better than a few days ago. I talked to Nikki just about an hour ago and she told me that they have upped her feedings to 10 cc milk every 2 hours that is almost full feed, and they plan to up it agin tonight at midnight to full feeds or 14 cc every 2 hours. Now they were going to extubate her ( remove the ventilator) but she was laboring a bit so they were planning on holding off til about 1 this afternoon, but were going to watch her carefully so she did not have to work hard at all in breathing, if she was having troubles back it goes again. Now she has a mohawk hairdo with the head shavings for the IV's but that will grow back I know so not worried there. I guess it seems that there is not any infection in her spinal fluids because they said if there was they would let them know and they have not heard a word.... WHEW!
Yes baby steps this is but hey that is better than those giant ones we took backwards a bit ago.
Now we are looking at going to see them this weekend and are hoping that by that time things will even be better.
Nikki said that Akiva is weighing 3 lbs 1 oz tonight, down from the 3 lbs 6 oz yesterday but that is because much of her swelling has gone away! I just know she will be a good 5 lbs in no time and not from swelling and stuff. Then if that is the case they will look at sending her to the hospital closer to their home.
I told Nikki that there were 114 posts (including mine) about Akiva since she was born from our board and then on the July baby board there were several more, and that I was going to print each one out, and she was so touched that there are so very many who care so much about this little one. She said that it is amazing the love and stuff that have come across to them for their little one.
The make a dream foundation has sent a couple times to the kids some money to help their expenses, and Alans work have done a couple raffles to gather some cash for the kids. I am so overwhelmed that there are so many wonderful people out there that care so much!
Yes I think we will be smiling again very soon, my corners are already starting to perk up on the sides.
Thanks so much, Lor, for the info. It sounds like this little baby girl is meant to be here! Hoping and praying that all the baby steps go forward from now on!!!
Sounds much better. No, don't worry about the mohawk. I wondered why they don't just shave the entire head, but nope they don't. I have pix of son with his unique haircut. LOL
Continued prayers for all of you. Plus, I agree...aren't people amazing.
Wow, Lori! That's double her birth weight just about isn't it? That's wonderful. Hope you get to go see her this weekend. Do you get to hold her when you visit?
You bet Red, that is double her birth weight and a little more than half a pound extra. Mind you some still could be from the swelling, but she is coming along.
No I am afraid I don't get to hold her, I am allowed to touch her though, but with the fear of infection think that will be limited for a bit yet.
I think the first thing when I do get to hold her is to kiss the top of her head... may sound weird but that is such a warm feeling to me. Of course to smell her hair is too... something about the smell of a baby, wish a person could duplicate that smell.
