Think I may be gonna be in trouble soon!

I bought a diet book, The South Beach Diet. Mostly cuz I had so much trouble in Vegas with water retention that I have to face the music and get some of this weight that I've added when I couldn't walk off..now! Well, I've been reading about glycemic indices and thinking that with meno and being overweight that my chances of being prediabetic are more than I'd like to think about. And the protein sparing fast that I did before to lose the weight the first time back in the 90s worked well but I really craved my crunchy veggies. The South Beach diet is set up for a 2 week pretty spare diet and then it allows you to add more so that you can stay on it longer. The first 2 weeks though are just lean proteins and low glycemic veggies with V8 juice and diet jello. It does allow me to have my morning coffee...just no toast with my eggs. Well, I was thinking this won't be too bad. But then there came a wrinkle! My dh looked at the book and has decided that he'd like to go on the diet WITH me since the stringent part is for only 2 weeks and most lose 10-15 lbs in that time. He eats chips and sandwiches and cookies every day for lunch and he is a cranky dieter. This is gonna be much rougher than I thought! Don't know how long he'll be able to deal with a salad topped by grilled chicken or tuna for both lunch and dinner each day. (I wasn't planning on cooking a whole bunch. It's summer after all! Guess I'll hide out at the Y during the day? If anybody has any suggestions on how to cope with a dieting dh, send them fast!-BB

Getting started is the hardest part. I bought that book a couple of months ago and haven't done a thing about it. I too am worried about being prediabetic and overweight. Good to chose the foods that have a low glycimic index. Know I spelled that wrong. Keep in touch as to how you are doing. I may get inspired. Also, good that the dh is wanting to do it too. Then you don't have to worry about cooking for him or having things around that you would be tempted to eat.

Geez, don't ya hate it when the DH or SO has to kibbitz on your thing?!?

Maybe you should eat at separate times, and make him cook for himself.

Afraid to say it but the only solution I can think of is be sure to buy a good set of ear plugs and if you want to go all out with the attire perhaps a set of blinders so you don't have to see the snarls.

Good luck and let me know how you did on the diet.

So does this mean if we do not hear from you every let say 3 hours at atime then you are in deep trouble! LOl

Good luck!!

Hugs, Lor

Bobbie, Dave does not even look like he needs to be on it.

Or were my eyes crooked.

Oh, Bobbie, I wouldn't want to be in your house for the next few weeks!! LOL!! A deprived husband is a grouchy husband. I think I'd keep a bag of chips and a package of cookies on hand just for "emergencies"! :-D

Good for you, though! You're right, you're all set up for diabetes, and take it from someone who has it, it is NO fun! It's the long term damage that I'm so afraid of, so dd and I are going to start working on the weight. Have an appointment with the dietician, again, so we can both go and find out how we can eat smarter, and still maybe have a few of the things we like. Get moving now, sweetie, exercise is sooo important, that's where I fail miserably!

Hang in there, give Dave a big hug, and keep the Prozac handy!! LOL!!

Hugs, Pam

Poor BB! Well, maybe the diet won't seem so bad to you when you see how much he's suffering, poor thing. LOL

You could put him in chaarge of fixing one of the meals each day.

Good luck!
