I went down to Newport this week-end

to buy a new bra or two. Took one look at myself standing half naked in jeans that were too tight and consequently were squishing the lower part of me up while the upper part was drooping down. It was scary. I marched out of there determined to wear this one ratty tatty, sometimes elusive bra that I have until I've lost enough weight that I can stand proudly in front of that mirror again. Or at least until I have the sense to try something on without actually looking in the mirror! I am now doing what I should have been doing all along...writing absolutely everything down that I eat and estimating the calories. It's amazing how fast they add up. But I'm being good. I passed up the doughnuts and pastries that someone was passing around this morning. I did have my Friday chai, though, but without whipped cream. And just as I thought I was getting away from work relatively safely calory-wise, my co-worker stopped and left a small brownie on my desk on her way out. My arm reached out, picked it up and threw it in the waste basket...but, for some reason, my aim was off and it ended up in my mouth. Is there a level in Dante's hell for dieters who give in. That's where I'm headed in the afterlife, I'm afraid.

You are welcome to that excuse, Free. I hope it works better for you, though, than it has for me!

Jan, I just want to be comfortable in my clothes. I gained over 30 pounds when I went back to work at the clinic and nothing fits anymore. I can't afford new clothes so it's either lose some weight or walk around with my jeans unzipped all the time. LOL

Oh, if anyone finds the answer let me know. I need to do something. I think tying my hands behind my back is the only thing that would work. Just came back from the movie Finding Nemo and of course I had to have popcorn. Now I'm beating myself up that I ate it. Has anyone heard of the South Beach Diet or tried it?

Dh and I are starting our 2 weeks on the first phase of the South Beach diet on 6/23. It looks good to me and looks like it should be nto too difficult to stay on. Will be able to tell more in a week. lol I like that it allows one as much lean protein and low glycemic veggies as one wants and only restricts fats and the carbs that turn to sugar quickly.-BB

Kat,

This is a really good, free site. You can punch in what you've eaten and it will spit out calories, percentage of carbs, fat and protein etc. Also has a section that will tell you if you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals from what you eat, etc.

Hi Suzanne,

I did the South Beach Diet and am still doing it. I lost 9-10 pounds in the first two weeks of Phase 1, most of it from my middle. It sure helped me to change my eating habits.

I'm up two pounds from when I did that in April, so I'm going to go back and do Phase 1 again. I'm about 15 pounds from my goal weight and would love to chop that in half. You get lots to eat on this diet including dessert and snacks.

www.prevention.com has some good info on it and there is a Yahoo support group too!
