I think I wrote a few weeks ago that I lost the female of the two adult finches that I had. Well, today, while I was in the greenhouse, I heard some "noises" and discovered that there are two very tiny little birds in one of the finche's nest. Apparently the male has taken them over and is now raising them as a single parent. They are so little yet that I'm not even sure they would have been hatched yet when she died. Also, the male parakeet who has a history of being friendly with finches, stands guard in front of the nest a lot. I don't know if he's watching over them or just "sharing the experience". And the female parakeet went into the nesting box for the first time (as far as I know, anyway) today. She may have just been checking it out but who knows!

Awww, Kat, that's really exciting! I'm so glad Mr. Finch is raising the kids! Sounds like he's passed the family idea to your parakeets! Glad you have such a happy ending to the story.

Enjoy!! Pam

Kat, I'm sorry about your female finch. I must have missed that post. But how exciting for you to watch those little families developing. Sure is entertaining around there. Keep us up to date on the progress of all your little birdies. Charlie

I missed the post about the mama finch, too. Poor little thing. Good for Dad, tho. Just goes to show men are nurturers, too! Hugs
