Family obligations - like it or not

My sister is very hung up and obsessed with our family tree. She found very very distant cousins of ours living in Germany. She invited these non-english speaking distant relatives to her house for TWO weeks. I have 5 sisters and 1 brother but we are the only two that live in this city. So guess what - I am the one that is included in the activities. I wouldn't mind so much if I was asked first but it has become expected because of course I want to meet them and spend time with them. They brought their grandson with them to interpret so we can comunicate if he is in the room. So yesterday was the big BBQ. I had to drag my DH and my DD there. This sister is very difficult to tolerate at the best of times - pushy, snobby and self centred. Well my Dad was there as well as another sister from out of town. I get along well with them but these two sisters do not get along with my Dad. My day there was listening to my sisters and their husbands complain about my Dad or trying to communicate with these people I know nothing about. Food was good though and I may even get some old family pictures that my sister has been holding on to, reluctant to share before. But that's not all. Somehow I have agreed to having all these people over to my house on Monday. When did that happen??? They will be here after supper, thank God, hopefully for just a couple of hours. My DH is a truck driver and goes to bed very early because he starts early (4 AM). Don't get me wrong. I like company and visiting, but prefer it on my terms and not pushed on me. But I do not really have a choice do I? Family Obligations - Like it or not!!

Very bad storm here last Friday - tornado sightings, lots of damage to trees, houses and cars. We were without power for a couple of hours. My flowers are still standing though! They have really taken a beating though. Time to start the big clean up for tomorrow. We are still fighting with our builder. There are many things he has not completed yet on the house. Some of them are building code infractions. We've been here almost one year and all we have ever had have been promises. Sent a letter last week to the warranty people so hopefully that gets them off their butts and start finishing our house.

Hope you all are having a great weekend and enjoy the celebrations. Our Canada day celebrations here (in my city anyway) are nothing complared to yours. Many years I have watched yours on TV and am in awe.

Time to clean up.

Hugs

LM having family things pushed on you is not any fun at all. I sure hope you make it through the visit at your home and then maybe you will have fullfill your obligations.

Hope today is a good one for you.

Love

Mary

That storm sounds pretty nasty and scary!! About the relatives, hopefully you can enjoy them and maybe even get an invitation to Grmany, beautiful country!! I agree with you, these things should not be forced, but I hope it all works out for you. Hugs, Gabby

LM, I feel for you being shoved into visiting with your German relatives! It's not fair for your sister to do that to you, but with your description of her, it's not too surprising. Hope it goes well tonight, and then your obligation will be finished!

Our weather was like yours this weekend, lots of storms and power outages. Hope your flowers survive!!

Take care, hugs, Pam
