the parking lot today. From that point on, the afternoon was pretty well shot as far as work went. We set it outside and watched it from a distance to see if any birds would show any interest in it. When it made its way out into the parking lot again, I'd go get it and bring it in. Toward the end of the afternoon we got desperate. One of the doctors got out a long ladder and I found a broom. I put the little one on the broom, climbed the ladder and was able to get it onto the roof where there is always a lot of bird activity. At long last a couple of birds started showing some interest in it and eventually were feeding it...perched right up there on the point of the roof. At that point, I decided to leave it to them, went inside and finished a few things up and then got ready to go. Since I was curious about the bird, I left by a different door than I usually do. No sign of it or any of the adults up there. I was glad. Somehow, I thought, they'd managed to get it somewhere safe. However, on my way back to the car I found it...sitting in the middle of the sidewalk. So I brought it home. Right now it's in the finches' nest with the male finch. The female has perched somewhere else. They aren't taking care of it but they aren't hurting it either. Tomorrow I'll take it back and let it do the roof thing again. We think it's a little swallow. Does anyone know what swallows eat? Am I going to have to start mashing up dead flies and worms if this one doesn't get back to a family unit?

Have no idea what they eat, probably as you say worms and flies.
Good luck with the bird.
